[Requirement] Please make an video-tutorial !!!

Hi!

Please make an video-tutorial with who to make portable an app...
Is no need to "prepare" your desktop, your speech, or something else, just please make a movie with your desktop's activity, when you make portable an app.

That will help all of people (or a big part of) who want to make an portable app.
And, please, don't say me "use the XXX software or YYY software" or "read HERE an THIS".

I readed this tutorial, but... something I don't understand... something more...
https://portableapps.com/node/14868
https://portableapps.com/node/9909

Too much unusefull informations... they are preparing an... needle, before sew something... I don't need to look about app x and y... I want to LEARN HOW TO, and for this, not to read hundrids of pages... sorry OliverK, but that is the true...

And I use PAC, but... that version (0.3 beta) use (just) Format Specification 1.0

Have a good day!

No PAC

Making a portable app requires much more work then just using PAC. Besides, as far as I know, PAC is old, and unsupported, and dead.

If you really want to learn how to make a portable app, download the PortableApps.com Launcher and look at the manual. It should get you started pretty quickly.

Exactly About That...

Exactly about that response I just sayed, in the post.

I know what you want to say, and PAC can be, by updating and supporting it, your best weapon for the site to be knew by more people.

But I want... an video-tutorial, and video recorded with (your) CamStudio (or anything else), uploaded and link posted here.

If you want, please record the desktop when you use what-programs-is-need and make an portable app.

Is no need to explain anything, just... record, upload and share...

Understand the process

You can't make an app truly Portable, unless you understand the process that has to be done, so your best bet is to use the PortableApps.com Launcher, and read the PortableApps.com Launcher Manual as you do it.
(and thank Chris Morgan for making them)

IMHO

A video tutorial would be nice BUT impossible to create, I could make one say of a specific program however that may not have the characteristics of a similar program, Java programs require different approaches than say Python or C or any other language. There are just too many variable in making portable a program to create a one size fits all tutorial

Not really...

You can create 5 videos in who to be How To Make Portable:
1. An app who is, already, full portable.
2. An app who don't modify registry
3. An app who have portable files, but modify registry
4. An app who use Java
5. An app who use .NET

And in PortableApps.com Application Template aren't all files we need: isn't installer.ini, AppName.ini, AppInfo.ini and some more files...

If I will have time, I will make videos, but I'm too busy because of the high school...
I don't know how is it in other countries, but in Romania if you learn 75% of what all teaches say to learn... you'll be the smartest one, from your job! Too much unusefull informations wich teachers want for we to learn it.
I hope I don't say something wrong...

I don't think you understand...

It would be a lot of work to make a single video let alone 5. When you look at the amount of time and effort put into that it's kind of rediculous to claim it's [required].

Then you need to think about how long these would be. Each would probably be at least 20 minutes condensed. That's a huge weight for site bandwidth and storage space. There's already good documentation that's been linked to above, a videos are just overkill.

Well, to be honest

I planned on making some tutorials. But I never did for two reasons (1) because my computer sucks and (2) because I don't have a microphone and it would take an excruciating amount of time to type out info in notepad during the video. Not to mention the editing...

Storage...

For storage... exist YouTube (I don't prefere it), Vimeo (slow loading), Viddler ( I prefere it)
...
...Just the time is the problem... If the Default-Template will be updated, you will can use it for tutorials... and let all the codes can be used, but optional lines with ";" at the line's first character.

And for the other required files, you can make an archive... and the rest is sf.com ... and tutorials.

@Pyromaniac: Is no need a microphone!
You can, simply, use that webapps.

And about webapps... The developers can make an doftware who let us to use

And about the forum: Please! Please! Use an sript from this page for the forum. It will look more pro.

No
  • The template is intentionally left blank in the places where it matters; too many people were expressly disobeying the "DO NOT USE THIS FILE!" message in the previous incarnation.
  • TTS is useless for making anything worth while.
  • The current forum system (Drupal core) is good (ever so much more space efficient than most forum systems); we have no intention of using any other system.

I've made tutorials in the past

Using Wink - an excellent program - it's possible to make effective tutorials. I used to do that for a number of apps that we used in my former job.
It's not as easy as you might think.
First, if you just record your screen activity as you create a portable app, even a simple one, it would be way too long, with a lot of false starts that would be confusing to the viewer. Trust me, even the most experienced people would have a hard time doing a perfect run-thru without a few mistakes. So, editing is a MUST, and several takes would be needed.
Second, you will save yourself a lot of headaches if you PREPARE an outline and a script to follow. If you just wing it, you will once more just confuse the viewer.
Third, narration is REALLY necessary. There are decisions and processes that can't be understood just by seeing them onscreen, and a well written succinct statement can save you long minutes of demonstration.
Fourth, being an aficionado of online tutorials, I've seen far too many that are created as you describe - no preparation, no audio, just someone recording the activity onscreen - and for the most part, they suck.

A well-designed tutorial, or series of tutorials, would be very helpful, to be sure. And hosting them on YouTube costs exactly $0.00.
But I agree with Jacob Mastel that the creation of these would be WAY more work than you imagine, and to this point, we haven't got someone willing to put in the time. And he's also right in that everyone here is an unpaid volunteer - so you really can't [Require] anyone to do anything. You can only ask, and hope that someone with both the skill and the desire has the time to do it.

I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.
