As I mentioned in the release

As I mentioned in the release notes, a lot has changed since the last release of Iron Portable, both in Iron itself and in Iron Portable.

I would really appreciate feedback so I can get an idea of how well the new Iron Portable performs, especially on Vista/Seven, and fix any problems that may crop up.

As you can also see from the release notes, PAL and portable passwords are finally working together (thanks again to Mark Sikkema, who made this possible). The more tests this feature gets, the better; I'm especially looking for cross-system tests (e.g. seeing if passwords saved on an XP system work on a Seven system).

Doesn't work on Win7 x64

Tried a clean install on my flash drive. Nothing appears when I try to run it from the platform. Task Manager shows the launcher starting followed by Iron then the Iron process terminates followed by the launcher. Windows 7 x64 does not show a splash screen and I don't see any error messages.

Edit: The fixed build (MD5 starting with 8867) solved the problem.

Not working

I did a clean install on the desktop, wiped my IronPortable folder from my PortableApps folder, copied the new one to my portable apps folder and run it from PAM and viola!, I get an error message saying that it Iron encountered a problem and needs to close.

So, as I typed this message, I thought maybe you put some custom code into the installer that would work on my flash drive, so I reinstalled directly... still no go.

I tried running from the desktop... nope.

XP SP3, Admin

Why'd you get rid of the nice splash... I liked it Sad

As kAlug noted, the problem

As kAlug noted, the problem seems to be a missing language DLL; I screwed up installer.ini by marking that DLL as optional when it really isn't. I'm uploading a fixed build right now.

With regard to the splash, I went back to the Development Test splash until this version is proven stable enough to become a Pre-Release again. Don't worry, I still have the official splash handy, and I'll bring it back as soon as this version of Iron Portable proves it can take a pounding without any issues.

Locale DLLs

At least App\Iron\Locales\en-US.dll must be installed, otherwise Iron will crash (as noted by Pyromaniac). The installer.ini at http://pastebit.com/pastie/5654 should work.

Nice catch.

Thanks for catching that. I fixed installer.ini and I'm uploading the fixed build right now.

The fixed build just finished

The fixed build just finished uploading; it should install properly now. Sorry for the inconvenience, and thanks for the reports.

didnt expect it to be SLOOOW

finally tried Iron along with https://chrome.google.com/extensions . expected Iron to be faster if not much blindingly faster than any of my PAF Google Chrome's. turned out not to be case AT ALL! slower than Fx's as well!

plus get this: thought this is THE browser is all about less intrusion, more privacy/security. but when went to Iron forum, they got ads that's able to plaster across screen tho i have AdBlock installed!

[BUG] Ctrl+F for anything didn't work for me

crashes about once a day, sometimes twice. until SRWare improves browser, including stop intruding with ads, not gonna use Iron too much

Iron, or Iron Portable?

When you say it was slow, do you mean Iron or Iron Portable? I can't help with Iron issues, and that's what this sounds like. (FWIW, Iron 9 was rather slow on my computer as well, although I attributed it to the computer's age and lack of RAM.) You might have better results reporting your issues on the SRWare.net forum.

Working ok?

Nobody's posted a bug report since February 12. Does that mean everything's working well, or are people finding problems but just forgetting to post bug reports?

No bugs

I took out for a spin a few more times, so far I haven't encountered any bugs. I'd like to see this go official. (I'd still use Firefox, though Wink )

Nothing Iron Portable specific

I have used it almost exclusively (sorry, I don't think it's possible for me to use one browser entirely exclusively for more than a day) since you posted it here (till I had a catastrophic system failure the other day which I am still trying to recover from :(), I have had absolutely no Iron Portable specific issues.
I have had a few little issues with Iron, which aren't even Iron specific (also present in Chrome), but my biggest problem with it is that when you launch it after a crash it doesn't SAY it's doing anything, it opens, does it's little recovery thing, and closes, I'd really like it if it said "Iron Portable was not properly closed last time it launched, recovery has been attempted, please close this dialog box and relaunch Iron Portable." or something to that effect.

IMPORTANT: Don't anybody read this as an issue that should block Iron Portable from becoming official, after all, it's a carry-over from Chrome Portable, and it's NOT a big deal (I really should have posted something about this under Chrome Portable instead); it's just the only thing I can report as not being an ideal PortableApp ;).

PAL issue

The recovery cycle isn't very neat in PAL as far as the user is concerned. I think I should add such a message box to remove any confusion.

Sweet

It took me a few occurrences to figure out what was happening, it's a great feature, I just think it needs a message box so the user isn't left thinking "Why didn't [AppName] Portable start yet? Wait, why isn't running? I guess I'll try starting it again, oh it worked that time. Weird." (or similar such thoughts)

So, should we expect a message box such as this to be added in the next Beta? or will we need to show more patience? Wink

Seems to me that adding a line like

MessageBox MB_OK|MB_ICONINFORMATION `$AppNamePortable did not have a chance to properly clean up after itself last time it ran, recovery and clean up has been attempted, please close this message box and relaunch $AppNamePortable.`

between lines 152 & 153 of Other/Source/Segments/Core.nsh should do the trick (though I can't test it right now).:)
