hi all, i remember sometime ago i came across an app that allows u to edit the appinfo section of apps including name and versininfo ect but lost it, does anyone have any idea where i might find such app. i've bin searching for days now but to no avail. any help would be appreciated thnx in advance.
That may be a nice addition to the toolset but than it should be extended to all relevant inis (launcher.ini, installer.ini, appcompactor.ini etc.).
On the other hand, I consider it redundant, since editing the appinfo.ini is the simplest part of creating/editing an app. The small set of information (normally about 17 items) easily fits in a single editor window and is edited in no time at all.
If the app builds up an own link database to all appinfo.inis (and may be to the others as well) of the whole set of installed portableapps to quick access them, that would be a completly different story (i don't know what the app you mentioned did). I would really appreciate that, too.
Would be great a launcher.ini "maker", where you'll have all possible configurations and you only check those that you want.
I consider that somewhat complex to create as well as to operate since most apps need different, sometimes very specific entries and seldomly need all possibile options. But to create entries with a guided system in contrast to just typing them from scratch could eliminate some errors and would help unexperienced users to create a consistent app. For that it should inculde a validation method to check, if dependencies(files and folders) are in the right place. I don't know if that is feasible, though.
A set of code completion for one of the code editors with entries for the laucher.ini might do the trick eventually.
from Chris Morgan, but that has never been released, not even as an alpha. We had a sneak peak into some of it's functions back in november. Among other, it had a (AppInfo) checker in there which kind of sounds like what you are describing. Did you ever use the app you mention, in which case we're not talking about the same thing? Or you only saw some screenshots...
My posts are old and likely no longer relevant.
i've had and used it to add non paf apps to the menu, not sure if i got it from here or somewhere else but i thought i'd ask. thnx for the help though.
That's a verrrrrrrry good idea... but verrrry... hard [?] to do and update it...
I've been working on this for quite a long time on and off (mostly off, unfortunately); I haven't had time to work on it for a while, but I hope to release an alpha version in a couple of weeks' time (I said that some months ago, so don't trust me).
To give you an idea of what it can do, here are some screenshots I produced in November (taken in Linux where I developed it - it'll run just as well in Linux as in Windows where it will generally be used):

well this is quite similar to the one i used but this isnt it though they both seem to do the same thing, gui is different for sure. i guess i'll keep looking. hope to see a release of that soon though. could be very useful. keep up the good work.
I'm not aware of any earlier effort in this direction at all. And I don't believe I could have missed it.

It might have been on another site somewhere, i'm always browsing for stuff like that so i'm not quite sure where i came across it but i was hoping it was here.i cant believe i lost it though i find it very usefull..
Doing a Google Search for AppInfo Editor, I see two entries beneath this thread that are also on PortableApps.com, the first is another thread which just happens to have an automatic link to this thread on the page, and the second one is a thread named Easy How Make portableapps and appears to be another persons attempt at making the PortableApps.com App Portablization process a little more ... um, automated? I guess. I haven't looked at it yet, but I guess it's got some kind of "AppInfo.ini Editor" (or at least that's what it says in the thread), maybe it's what the OP is looking for.

not sure how i overlooked this but ye ty bud
Will this allow testers to run the PAF validation against dev tests, to turn around and let new devs what they're missing?
Take a look at my screenshot.

I see, so we just copy/paste the results into the dev test thread. Thanks for the clarification.
Well, technically I can (wait that is), and I will (eagerly), but it sure will be nice to be able to run a quick PAF validation before I post a DevTest (not that I've posted any yet, but that will change)

@Chris Morgan:
We still wait for your app...
Quoting Chris himself from one of his posts above:

Since he posted that on 28/2/11 (less than a week ago), give him some time.
