Qucs 0.0.16 Development Test 3

Application: Qucs
Category: Education
Description: Quite Universal Circuit Simulator (Qucs) is an open source electronics circuit simulator software released under GPL. It gives you the ability to set up a circuit with a graphical user interface and simulate the large-signal, small-signal and noise behaviour of the circuit. Pure digital simulations are also supported using VHDL and/or Verilog.

Qucs Portable 0.0.16 Development Test 3 [7.1MB download / 12.7MB installed]
(MD5: 8d0a0063566e11a0a052ec74edb975b8)

Release Notes:

Development Test 3 (2011-04-08):

  • Updated Qucs to version 0.0.16
  • Changed icons and names in line with local install
  • Reverted QucsPortable.ini to AppNamePortble.ini as per PA platform definition
This now validates using the PAF validator.

Known issues:

  • Qt customColors not fully taken care of - I am waiting for the PAL guys to do it for me
I am currently using the recommended setting which is not fully working

Development Test 2 (2011-03-05):

  • Updated to reflect Bart.S comments (thanks I had missed all of these)

Known issues:

  • Qt customColors not fully taken care of - I am waiting for the PAL guys to do it for me
I am currently using the recommended setting which is not fully working

Development Test 1 (2011-02-16):

  • First public test
  • I have been running this for a while now without problems so I thought I would share.

Known issues:

  • Environment variable ASCODIR not handled (may not be needed)
  • Drive switching not implemented for .qucs\qucsrc
  • Qt customColors not taken care of

Haha nice,

I made a launcher for Qucs 0.0.15 about 2 years ago, but never published it due its complexity (and it was never requested). I'll compare your launcher with mine if I find the time.

This is using PAL

Using the PAL made it so much easier. I don't think I would have considered it without the PAL as it is now 3 configuration lines instead of many many lines of code.

3 lines?

Pardon I don't think it could be portable with 3 lines.

I thought so

That is what I thought at first but then after quite a lot of reading it seems to work...
I haven't used all the functionality of Qucs so maybe it is not really portable but it seems to be fine here.

Ok,

took a look at your 3 lines. Some points:

  • [Environment] I don't know if necessary, but I had ASCODIR=%PAL:AppDir%\Qucs too (without PAL of course :P)
  • No automatic language switching is implemented (not necessary)
  • No drive letter adjustment is implemented (e.g: .qucs\qucsrc)
  • No registry cleaning is implemented. Qucs is a Qt app and creates HKLM\SOFTWARE\Trolltech\Qt\customColors when admin, otherwise HKCU\Software\Trolltech\OrganizationDefaults\Qt\customColors. For backup and cleaning, an user rights check is needed.

I think that's all. (at least my launcher had these things inside, but I haven't used Qucs for years ;-))

Thanks for looking

Thanks for looking. I am a bit busy these days I will look into that. When I ran it, long ago (this has been on my drive since at least last summer), I had a clean regshot but I have not garantee it was the same launcher and I was using a PC with very few authorisations.

There will be a dev test 2 sometime in the future...

Thanks

I had completely missed those. Thanks for pointing them out.
I have now a dev test 2 which takes care of all of these except language switching.
I have not really done much for the customColor, just what is recommended by the PAL guys but this is not complete. I don't have much time these days so they may solve the problem before me...

0.16 released

In case you don't know there's recently been a new release. Do you plan on making a new development release to the new version at some point? Thanks

Coming soon

Sorry for the late reply but yes, I already have it running here for a good week. I hope to tidy it and release it this weekend

This this just a tidy up and update.

Thanks...

...aamiel for the update. Seems to be working OK so far. I understand this program probably isn't of interest to a lot of people, but for us electronics folks it has some usefulness. The development of this program seems slow, but still going.

Qucs and others

I am not myself an electronics engineer but need to use it from time to time.
After looking a bit I found Qucs was the simplest and yet still useful open source program of this type so I started using it.
Any other recommendation are welcome but I may not portabilise them.
