This round of translations is complete and this topic is locked. A new round of translations will commence on July 20, 2011
I've posted an update to the Platform 2.0 Translation set here that includes two new sets of strings as well as the current versions of all translations from the previous post. The added strings for this release include:
In the [FORM_MAIN] section, MENU_HELP_DONATE and MENU_HELP_SUPPORT
In the [UPDATER] section, everything from REQUIRED_PLATFORM_UPDATE on.
The entire [SUBCATEGORIES] section. (If you're unsure of any of them, check out the Portable App Directory for guidance.
You can download the current language set here:
Download Platform 2.0 RC1 Translations Take 2
The English.locale contains the strings being translated from. If an entry is missing in your locale, please add it, but be sure to add it in the correct section. Remember, spelling of section names and entry names is critical. And be sure to use an text editor like Notepad++ or similar set to a Unicode setting (UTF-8 or UCS-2-LE for instance) and not ANSI as it can cause issues. To post your updated translations, you can post it to a service like pastebin.com and just link to it.
We'll be bundling these up in 2.0 RC 1 and then 2.0 Final very shortly, so the need to get these done quickly is critical.
As always, thanks for all your help in making the PortableApps.com Platform available for EVERYONE!
TESTING NOTE: The 1.6.1 release can not read UTF8 or UTF16LE files, only ANSI, so is not a good way to test the basic strings. The 2.0 Beta 5 release can read UTF16LE files but a few things are not handled with the locale file in the interface (Manage Apps and the space free bar, for instance).
IMPORTANT DISCUSSION NOTE: Please discuss any problems with or changes to posted translations in English otherwise we may miss an important update.

Sometimes it says PortableApps.com Menu (FINISH_TEXT_NEW) and sometimes it says PortableApps.com Platform (FIRSTRUN). Is this intended behaviour? Is there a difference between the two?
I (as a long time user) know that they refer to the same but I think it should be consistent.
"What about Love?" - "Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate." - Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate
Good point, that matters for the german translation, too. I have missed that. Should we match these (to Platform or Plattform once we came to a decision)?
The Platform refers to the whole thing (Updater, Backup Utility, App Directory and Menu). The Menu refers to the menu.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Thats a clear definition. we might think about putting it somewhere as there are people asking about it in the forums and I haven't seen it explained as clearly as you did just now.
"What about Love?" - "Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate." - Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate
I run into a couple inconsistencies while looking at the german translation of the subcategories (like Accessability-Magnification). Sometimes its not clear how to translate them in an universal yet clear and short manner so the name not only reflects the current app but possible future additions too. My idea is this:
If there is only one app in a subcategory, can I name it with the name of the app and think about a more general name later once a second/third app has been added? Or is this too difficult as it needs constant translation updates going forward?
"What about Love?" - "Overrated. Biochemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate." - Al Pacino in The Devils Advocate
It needs to be abstract as they appear in the App Directory currently to apply to multiple apps. We'll be using these as sub-categories only in the future (not as app descriptions) once the new app directory comes online and apps have multiple translations of long and short descriptions that we can feed down to the App Directory in the Platform.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Just FYI.
Yeah, we know. Thanks.

My Polish fellows, please take a look at this translation, especially Subcategories names. I strongly encourage you to discuss these!
Cheers,

Hi, I've changed some translations (at Subcategories), so have a look: http://pastebin.com/7Vv6xADw
wmq [vi em kjuː]
but there are some nuances...
First of all, there is an inconsistency in the original names: some of them are plural, some singular. We need to decide which form to embrace, but until we see the GUI and descriptions taken from subcategories' names, it's hard to tell whether plural looks better or not. I guess singular would be preferred.
"Chat" is not the same as "IM", that's why I translated it literally as chat. You can chat via IRC or an IM or Skype.
Pardon my Polish now: trzeba się zastanowić, czy "komunikator" to pojęcie szerokie, czy też wąskie. Wszystkie te narzędzia służą do komunikacji, ale czy wszystkie są uważane za komunikatory?
I didn't use "Email clients" since I don't really now if all those email utilities here are only clients. Plain "Email" is a no-brainer :).
D.
These are sub-categories so they normally refer to multiple apps. The ones that are not plural are adjectives for a given category. Example: Card, Board, Arcade sub-categories in the Games category. Those are all singular because they are basically stand-ins for Card Games, Board Games, Arcade Games, etc. You can see the GUI right in the current Status Update for where and how they will appear.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I wrote about inconsistency related not to adjectives (which are, by the way, both singular and plural in Polish), but nouns, like in this example:
Browsers=Browser
Nevermind, we'll solve this in translation. It's just a matter of one decision :).
It should be browsers=browsers as I stated earlier. Keep it plural. If it's Browsers=Browser in the locale file, it's a typo.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Sorry about that somewhere there was plural and somewhere singular, I have simply overlooked them.
My paste in pastebin will always be avaliable at the same address, here.
Sorry, now in polish:
Sugeruję wybór pomiędzy Czat, Komunikacja i Komunikatory.
Moja wersja zawsze będzie dostępna pod tym adresem.
wmq [vi em kjuː]
First of all, we should decide on which form for subcategories we should use throughout the interface: singular or plural. Which one looks better? When referred to a particular program, singular is better (e.g. "Firefox = browser"). But when referred to a subcategory, plural seems more appropriate ("Firefox = [subcategory of] browsers").
Of course, if we decide on plural, we should also change adjectives in Games.
Regarding your questions (back to Polish again, as only Poles would be interested):
1. Z grubsza tak. W Windows jest Kalkulator z opcją naukową (scientific), a tu mamy obliczenia techniczne. Sądzę, że nie ma co drążyć tematu głębiej - to tylko nazwa podkategorii.
2. Nigdy nie lubiłem słowa "autoring", bo to kalka. Zawsze używałem "przygotowanie" albo "tworzenie", więc nie mam nic przeciwko zmianie np. na pierwszy z nich. Słowo płyt można sobie darować, bo mało miejsca, a czy może chodzić o cokolwiek innego?
3. Notacja to jak najbardziej prawidłowe słowo, choć jako rzeczownik, nie czasownik. Można ewentualnie zamienić kolejność na Tworzenie muzyki i notacja .
4. Kombinowałem trochę i uznałem, że jednak marnowanie czasu to najlepsze określenie marnowania czasu :).
5. Niech będzie Narzędzia poczty email.
6. Czat to najlepsza opcja, bo komunikacja odbywać się może także emailem :). Choć estetycznie wolę właśnie komunikację.

I paste the translation with modifications. Included the name of all helpers in the translation.

You forgot this strings:
MENU_HELP_DONATE=Contribuir con PortableApps.com
MENU_HELP_SUPPORT=Soporte
I don't understand this -> APP_MENU_RUN=Ejecuta&&r (two ampersands??)
and this -> BUTTON_REMIND=Recordar más tarde (you have deleted the ampersand (&))
the original was -> BUTTON_REMIND=Re&cordar más tarde
About this: ICON_MANAGE_APPS=Gestion&ar
You put: ICON_MANAGE_APPS=Administr&ar aplicaciones
but in English it's: ICON_MANAGE_APPS=Manage &Apps
"Administr&ar aplicaciones" it's very much larger than "Manage &apps" and in the menu haven't enought space. I bet by "Gestion&ar Apps", what do you think?
What is this? -> INVALID_INSTALLER=El instalador no cumple con el formato adecuado compatible con la aplicación.
It was right already. INVALID_INSTALLER=El instalador no cumple con el formato PortableApps.com.
The original says: (preferences, bookmarks, etc)
You say: (preferencias, marcadores, dependencias..)
Dependencies? An portable apps it's portable, it hasn't dependencies...
Why you invent a new word in the translation?
Regards
Wow, that was just dirty what you did to the other Spanish translators.
(I apologize if this was a misunderstanding, but it's hard to see how it could have ended up that way.)
