a.exe: Replace [Win] keys with Portable versions and get accent shortcuts

a.exe (which I've now renamed to AMAA for AutoMenuAutoAccent) is a AutoHotkey_L script written by me. AMAA does the following:

  1. Gives shortcuts for placing accents on letters similar to MS Word (with some added functionality aimed at developers).
  2. Overrides the Windows key to open the PortableAppsMenu rather than the Windows start menu.
  3. Overrides [Win + E] to open a user-specified file browser.
  4. Calls a program like ejectUSB to eject your USB drive by simply pressing [Win+J].

Note that I've removed the download link as I'm not currently meeting the forum guidelines. I'm working towards the requirements for the app to be considered allowable self-promotion: I'm working on converting it to PA.com Format and choosing a OSI-approved license (I'll probably choose the GPL). I'll probably also move it to the beta testing forums. However, I want to make it somewhat more user-friendly first, so I'm working on the next version which'll be more user friendly by including a proper (well semi-proper) GUI for the settings rather than a bunch of Input Dialogs.

You can help by:

  1. Suggesting a proper name. (If I don't receive any suggestions, I'll probably go for AMAAPortable or something like that.)
  2. Commenting on what licence to use and where to include it. (I'm really not good with legal, uhm, stuff.)
  3. Telling me your favourite Portable file browsers and eject programs. Currently my latest local version (I've never published it on the Internet yet) already automatically detects Explorer++ Portable, FreeCommanderPortable, Xenon Portable (all of which are official PortableApps.com apps) and ejectUSB (not an official PA.com App).

This is considered

This is considered self-promotion and against the rules. Unless you release the source code for a.exe though.

Actually I also include the source code in the download

Actually I also include the source code in the download. "a.exe" is merely the name for the zipfile download I came up with when I posted this approx. half past three in the morning (my local time). Sorry for the extremely confusing post.

Furthermore, I had the source code of the previous version on the main post but accidentally overrode it. The previous version was almost identical except that it was more difficult to configure and had some two semi-serious bugs that was fixed in the new version.

I've realized my mistakes the very next day (or rather later the same day) but have really not had the time to fix them until now (just past midnight again) and now I can't fix them since my "save" button on the main post has (quite understandably) disappeared. So can some admin please either change the main post to reflect that the source code is included in the zipfile called "a.exe" and accessible through "RapidShare: a.exe" (I really was that stupid!) or give me access again. Preferably both.

PS. My idea really wasn't "self-promotion" but just to share something with the Open Source community for everything they've already given me.

PPS. In the "Edit" field of the main thread, there is a checkbox labeled "Leave shadow copy" and described: "If you move this topic, you can leave a link in the old forum to the new forum." How does this work because I was trying to move the thread to a new location and link to it from the old thread (to reflect the version update) when I accidentally overrode the old main post.

Preview, you wrote it, just check the box

1. When editing your post, you have to preview it first before you can save it.

2. By promoting the use of a program you yourself wrote, you are self-promoting.

3. All you need to do to leave a shadow topic is check the box. This leaves a copy in the old location linking to the new location, it doesn't add anything to the post itself.

Don't use shadow

You don't want a shadow post. That's for moving a post between forums, and we don't use that feature at all anyway.

Thanks. Since the changes I wanted to make were simple, I didn't bother previewing.

OK. I read the forum guidelines quite long ago and seemed to have forgotten about what exactly is considered allowable self-promotion. I thought merely adding the source code was enough (especially if I'm working towards portabalising the app anyway - as I were, but forgot to mention). I've now updated the main post to take the forum guidelines into account. I've also removed the download link until I can meet the requirements for a self-promoted app.

I have one question about the guidelines however:

These posts must meet the following criteria:... infrequent - weekly postings would not be permitted. but one or two postings a month would be fine

If I'm developing the App and want to get user feedback and to release new versions, how am I supposed to keep to the above quoted guideline? Or is it not applicable to posts on a thread specifically about the app?
