Application: Spybot - Search & Destroy
Category: Security
Description:
Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.
Spybot-S&D can also clean usage tracks, an interesting function if you share your computer with other users and don't want them to see what you have been working on. And for professional users, Spybot-S&D allows you to fix some registry inconsistencies and extended reports.

It's very late and I'm very tired, so please test this.
EDIT: Yup, already realized I forgot a few WaitForEXEN values (SDScan.exe and SDFiles.exe). Rebuilding...
EDIT 2: Fixed.
Nice that this one is being done
Anyway, here's my regshot, done on a clean win7x64 install in VirtualBox
Hope it helps in anyway
Regshot always crashes for me, so thanks. I should have an update to address the stuff it shouldn't leave behind today or tomorrow.
EDIT: I believe only these are necessary to handle:
EDIT 2: Fixed. It's taking longer than usual to upload. Give it a few minutes.
Set yourself up a clean Windows install in a virtual machine like VirtualBox, get it up to date via Windows Update, and then snapshot it as a clean version. From there, you can test out apps and use Regshot. Regshot is likely crashing because your registry is too big for it to handle. Also, keep in mind that Regshot will appear to freeze and become unresponsive if you click on its window on Windows Vista/7 even though it is actually working under the hood still.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I've been meaning to install a copy of XP in VirtualBox anyway, but I haven't gotten to it yet. Soon.
Can confirm that those two reg keys are gone now.
On the other hand i made a system scan with spybot and after i tried to "fix" the issues found (some reg keys and cookies), it gave me this message
http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/1816/20111024104310.jpg
"Cannot create file "C:\ProgramData\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Quarantine\Quarantine.reg". They system cannot find the path specified"
Weird
But this might be a problem with the base app. I just received a similar error while running the scanner using the non-portable version.
EDIT: Did you run the scanner with or without admin?
With. Win7x64.
EDIT: Just installed the normal non-portable version of Spybot in VirtualBox and I got no errors after the scan and fixing. Also as Administrator and in win7x64
Updated to the RC. The base program still seems to be pretty buggy, however. Let me know of any issues with the launcher anyway, thanks.
I fixed a few things that were left behind and re-enabled admin=try; for some reason it wasn't working for me before but now it is.
Also, two issues still exist:
1. Some keys in HKLM aren't deleted (but are backed up) when Spybot is exited. I can try adding some delay via custom code later to see if this will fix the issue.
2. Language switching is not yet implemented due to the way Spybot now stores the language setting. They use the path as the key, but the PA.c launcher does not (yet) support environment variable substitution for the key for INI files. Chris said he would implement this in the next version, so I'll either wait or try to figure out some custom code to handle this.
Take a look at the custom code I've got for ToDoList. I think it does what you want.
If not, I've submitted a patch to Alusio for PAL that adds environment variables for INI keys.
I've thought about it, and I'm not sure if we should restrict envsubst just to ConfigRead and INI. I think we could perform environment variable substitution on everything but Type and CaseSensitive. I just don't know if it's a sane thing to do. What do you think?
Previously known as kAlug.
Why not? That way in the edge cases where environment substitution is needed, it's available. So long as nothing gets broken, I don't see a compelling reason against it.
Updated to latest RC.
@Gord I think I'm misunderstanding how to use your custom code. Does it not implement env var substitution for key attributes in INI?
This new version says taht I have 30days for the profesional version till it goes away? Afterwards, what happens if I don't pay for the upgrade?
Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.
If I understand it correctly, it'll just disable the "pro" features after that period has ended. The software itself should still be freeware.
