What do you want?

Is an excel / LibreOffice Calc-document enough for you or do you want something like DataCrow (a bit outdated) or Griffith which can do more?

Both outdated ?

Hi there Simeon, I have a couple questions and comments. You're good and on the right track, I "wasn't" looking for something like Griffith, Because, I was really only looking to have a list I could keep and maybe print out or take with me so that when I am at a store I wouldn't buy something I already have, AND something we can look at to see what we wanted to watch or our friends can see what we have etc. As I was coming here to see if I had a reply I thought about something like an office program like Abiword or Ooo, but I am not familiar with how to do anything like this in a "word" or excel or whatever office type program, but was probably the way I wanted to go. But I got a look at this Griffith and it looks GREAT,( I also want something for CD's/Music, I have music that wouldn't be in a data base though, so Not sure I want a songbird or Itunes type of thing. Are both of those Datacrow and Griffith outdated ? I notice there are only 2 days difference back in 2009. I haven't looked at Datacrow because the file size was bigger and it seemed like you said it was more outdated and not as detailed as Griffith AND it needs Java.. Maybe if I knew how to do something in Abiword or OOo or Excel, not sure what LibreOffice is and how it compares. Seems like they or someone should update or do a final release of Griffith. Sorry for the long reply. And Thanks for your reply, always helpful.

No

Data Crow Portable was last updated 2010-07-19 and Griffith Portable on 2010-01-03. Remember that you don't look at the original post date. If you want it, I'm ready to update Data Crow Portable. Griffith is up to date already.

Not into Java

Hi there, Datacrow sounds great, but I'm not into java at all. Yeah I overlooked the update dates.

Griffith vs Libreoffice

I myself use Griffith. Its for movies only but pretty good at that imho. DataCrow can not only be used for DVDs, but for games, books, photos and whatever too. So maybe thats what you want. And as it works with portable java, thats not a problem either apart from the size.

LibreOffice is large too. But if you only want a list, it may be enough. the spreadsheet component is pretty straightforward.

If I were you, I'd try all 3 and choose one Smile

gonna try datacrow

as that seems more complete. I've got a android app that lets me scan barcodes so I don't have to type stuff in, and then I can export it. Hopefully Datacrow can let me import it properly.

Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.

You never know, it might be

You never know, it might be the app that converts you to Java.

I have to say after a rocky (read slow and bloated) early life Java apps these days, as long as the developer takes enough care, run fairly well on most PCs.

Does it ?

Because it isn't just because of being bloated, It's always been a easy way to get infected and such, and it did just that 3 times to me years ago, and I never let it install or install it, and I don't see anything on websites that I am missing that would require me to use it, and I never looked back. Now that I think about it there is only one program I don't use enough that I like, that I would need it for which is Open Office.

Ant Movie Catalog or...

I have been using "Ant Movie Catalog " for a while and really like it. Although it is not in PAF, it can be extracted and ran from a portable device. (I have been using the beta version 4.1 without any issues for the last few months). The main reason I have been using Ant Movie Catalog is that it integrates nicely with "My Films" which is a Plugin for "Media Portal" (Which is absolutely awesome IMHO :-))

There is also "Personal Video Database" which is available if PAF format from the developers site (although I am not sure if it meets the current specs). I have have heard great things about this one but cannot comment myself.

I also have a couple friends that use and love "Movienizer", but again I cannot personally comment. Like "Ant Movie Catalog" a portable version is available for download from the developers site, but it is not in PAF.

Happy hunting Smile

It amazes me that on the internet you can be anything you want, and yet so many people still choose to be idiots.
