Portable fonts subdirectories

Hi there,

Portable Fonts don't seem to be working for me if they are in subdirectories of the fonts folder. Is this a bug or intentional? If intentional, would it be possible to add that feature as I like to keep my fonts organized? Also they don't seem to be working with Libre Office Portable, out of the box, do you have an idea of how to fix that?

Many thanks

Unsupported

Just keep everything in one directory. I don't know if we'll add subdirectories later.

Some apps use their own method. I thought LibreOffice supported this. Are you sure they are in the fonts directory before you start the platform? If unsupported, LibreOffice has its own portable fonts directory. It's listed on its support page.

I couldnt find anything about fonts on the libreoffice support page. And it says there that a Suite with LibreOffice would be in planing which isnt afaik.

Check OpenOffice

Hi Simeon,

The fonts folder seems to be X:\PortableApps\LibreOfficePortable\App\libreoffice\Basis\share\fonts. It is mentioned at https://portableapps.com/support/openoffice_portable but I guess not in the LibreOffice support page. This said, I wish LibreOffice could just read the PortableApps font folder. It's a shame that:
a) Fonts have to be duplicated and take up precious space on a USB disk (especially when there are a lot of them)
b) The LibreOffice fonts are in the App folder, not the Data folder where they should be
I believe this is an easy fix, and would be happy to help implementing it if someone explains to me how to contribute to existing apps.

Thanks

Preserved

If you're worried about losing your fonts on a LibreOffice Portable upgrade, the fonts directory is preserved on upgrades. We're looking into whether we can get LibreOffice to see the Platform's shared fonts directory for an upcoming release.

Fonts & Dictionaries

Hi @Unconventional,

The same is true for Dictionaries; Firefox & Thunderbird (and presumably Opera, Maxthon etc) use add-on dictionaries - There's even a dedicated PA Dictionary Program https://portableapps.com/apps/education/goldendict_portable as well as Open Office/Libre Office (and all the PDF readers no doubt)

I believe both the Fonts & Dictionaries issues (and a hand full of other items) could be tackled in the same way. (ie a PA base set of fonts/dictionary/preferences/sounds/etc either bundled or as optional add ons - like the music files being an add in to Ver 10)

Having rediscovered some Star Trek (Federation & Klingon etc) and other Science Fiction fonts on a long packed away Night Owl CD I'd like to keep them separate too.

Thanks for reading,
