Hi, this is puzzling me and I'm really hoping someone out there can help; I use Portable Thunderbird 8.0 - I may need to upgrade, I know, but I'm worried that my zindus plugin, and some others won't work. I'm running it on a windows 7 laptop, from the main hard drive (planning to move it onto a portable, but haven't got that far yet...).
I have four accounts set up at the moment, all pop3, and until yesterday afternoon, all were working fine. Suddenly, one is not longer working - my main work address, of course! No errors, and no crash, just no activity. I open Activity Manager and I see, when get all mail, all the other accounts say X messages to download, or no messages to download; but this account, no indication that it even exists.
I tried jiggling the account - I changed the login and then back again, in case the account settings would rebuild, but that didn't help. I deleted all .msf files in the account's mailbox. I rebooted, restarted Thunderbird, etc., to no avail. I also set up the same account in Outlook, and it is working fine - I just don't like Outlook - which indicates that all the settings are fine (as they were yesterday when it was working). The only change I can think of between working and not working was Windows update, Definition update for Windows Defender KB915597.
Does anyone know anything else I can try, look at, or any other advice to make this work again? Thanks in advance,
Ian
Well, still curious about this, but no longer urgent. It started working again. The only two things I did, not related as far as I know, but could have been...
1. I archived some mail out of inbox directly via webmail.
2. I ran adaware and removed a trojan:
Description: c:\users\ian\appdata\local\temp\posce97.tmp Family Name: Trojan.Win32.Generic!BT Engine: 3 Clean status: Success Item ID: 1 Family ID: 0 MD5: 64be90378fc40117ea93dfb8fa5aec92
Just a few minutes after that, I suddenly was prompted for my password in thunderbird, and email started coming in. I love computers.
darn, spoke too soon.it worked for a moment, then nothing. i guess i'm on to upgrading, but not too pleased with, or confident in, that plan.
maybe you got reinfected?
You can also look at the add-ons you have and check which ones are up to date or not. I did that first, and noticed some stuff that wasn't updated, and looked for other similar add-ons. Surprisingly, I found newer add-ons from other folks that combined a couple of my old ones, or found current analogues.
Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.
