Release Notes:
Development Test 1 (2012-03-31):Initial release
Should be up to the standards of the PAF template 2.2
I have done a slight rename to CD-CircleDock, this allows me to have 3 menu items that will launch the 3 separate program within the actual program, Circle Dock, Circle Dock Wallpaper Changer and a Stand Alone Stack maker. By doing the rename they should appear all grouped together in alphabetical order. This is available in over 50 languages and can be configured via the settings. I created this for fun as an EYE CANDY, not sure how useful it might be to others.
But any version of CircleDock past 0.9.1 (or 0.92 alpha) is in violation of the GPL as the source has not been released.
I only know because I was looking at doing CircleDock a few months back, and did some research after noticing the official site was at 0.91 but 1.5.6 was out elsewhere.
What happened was the original dev let the project go, someone else picked it up, but he refuses to release the source.
I found this download through there forums. As far as the source will look it up in mean time will pull this for now. Thanks I started with the 0.92 beta and then before I did release it I found this version, thanks

OK so any idea what this means? In lay terms?
From what I have read above as well as the definition of Open Source Software located
here I believe it is legal to redistribute the program.

I did not see that when I was looking at it.
I don't think that changes anything though because I didn't think the Ms-PL was compatible with the GPL meaning they would have broken the licence just in changing the licence.
But, I would like others to take a look and do some research on it too. As I said, it was a few months ago (maybe 6-8?) I was looking at doing this, things may have changed.
the info from the help files included, I too would like some more info. I ave written the developers as well, however now I wonder if I can host it on Sourceforge? I am currently going to upload it to MediaFire as well and use that link. Does bring up some thoughts to think about though.

GPL code can not be used in MS-PL projects and vice versa. They are incompatible by design due to the way MS wrote the MS-PL. Is this a project under the MS-PL using code from the original GPL project? If so, then it is illegal. Unless the original copyright holder reassigned things.

if I understand correctly I can not use the PortableApps launcher or code there in to make this portable? is that what you are saying?
As for the licensing this is what is in the help file in regards to the GPL vs Ms-PL status

Them taking GPL code, modifying it and releasing a binary without the source is 100% illegal. End of story.
Taking GPL code and re-releasing it under an incompatible license is the same story.
You can take MS-PL code that is legal and release it in PortableApps.com Format with a PortableApps.com Launcher, though.

Looks like another battle loss...Do you want me to delete the entire thread or maybe leave it up in case anyone searches for the app? Also as stated below no downloads the more I read about this whole program the more confused I get
http://forums.stardock.com/378484 calls this freeware....either way thanks again

No one downloaded it, it is pulled from Sourceforge, I tried, thought i had all bases covered, guess I need to hire a lawyer on standby ( ) I read open source and guess I did not realize just how many open sourced licensing there was, and it surely did not mention any of that in the eula I agreed to.
Thanks for the info John and winteblood

Glad to help, although the outcome isn't a good one, sorry.
There is nothing stopping you packaging 0.91 as that was the last truly OS version that was released. It is missing quite a few features though, but it has the upside of not making you wait almost a minute to see the settings screen (at least that was my experience with the last version I used).
But I spent way to much time tweaking this one not going to waste my time on a dead project that has no hopes of ever going anywhere....oh well another lesson learned the hard way....seem to be bouncing my head off of the wall a lot lately

Actually, since it is open source, someone could pick up at 0.91 and do a legal version from here on out.
If we want to get technical, if one dev has added code to the GPLed version and released it under MsPL. As long as all the code came from him, it's still GPLed. He's legally required to release his code under the GPL.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
GPL is actually a beta build and I gave up trying to figure out the license, since I am not a programmer and I did use the old version before the "new one" I saw that the new one had many of the bugs worked out. So if the new one is ok to post I can if not I really not inclined to go backwards in the development?

What if vf2nsr released the .91 code with the package? In theory, only the code from .91 is GPL'd and everything else is MsPL, correct? So if he releases the GPL code, would all be good?
Anything added to the GPLed code becomes GPLed. It just a matter of whether the person adding it created the code or not. Because if he took code from a GPL incompatible source (like MsPL) then the whole package is just illegal. But yes, everything up to .91 seems GPLed. The issue is bugs were fixed after that using an improper license.

so I guess I need a lawyer to release it ? LOL Heck I not even sure there is interest in it not to mention it is a .net package from what I can tell?
