Ok, so I tried creating a autorun file for this and it didn't work at all. Is there any way to make it so when I plug in my flash drive, the PortableApps platform starts automatically? I don't want to have to go to the my computer, drive, start, and everything, I just want it to start up automatically when I plug in the drive.
Is there any way to make this happen? If so, how? I need this to work with windows 7, and as far as I have read, windows 7 doesn't support autorun.inf anymore due to security reasons. Microsoft removed the feature and replaced it with autoplay, but even that doesn't give me the option to automatically run it.
How can I make it so the second I plug in my drive, PortableApps starts up?
autorun in general is disabled via an update and it affects xp through to 7, it was disabled to prevent the spread of potential viruses or so microsoft's reasoning

Autorun in a word 'inkmon' what do they say search and you shall find. I am a programmer I make tools to make my life easier if they work good I sell them. My latest allows programs, web pages without a browser active and folders to be opened in a group. I have quite a few groups I use.
I was very disappointed when MS changed the auto play system so I set about giving myself the solution

with a lot of ifs
if you generally use it on one computer
you could go into disk management and assign it its own drive letter ( I Use Z for mine)
Then if you were to create a desktop shortcut to the start.exe on the drive
and if you did that you would just need to hit the shortcut
But again a lot of ifs

On your own computer, you can use this: https://portableapps.com/node/13770
I personally have used the no-gui version with much success. I've since switched to having a seperate partition on my HDD, so it doesn't work anymore, but it worked for flash drives/external hard drives.
primarily on a laptop now a days I use portable HDD I have a 160gb notebook drive I made portable have it pasrtition as 80 gb Portable apps/ temp storage and other have on a quasi Ubuntu dual boot...I hit the drive letter boot and then boot to that drive where the grub is written so my PA drive is basically always plugged in. Although I also have a netbook with 16gb sd card for Pa and 2 16 gb sticks for PA plus a few more "custom" pa sticks

Thanks for all the answers. Definitely going to try out the authoring program you made for it. Any idea if your going to do a final release or something?
I made this system to load my own programs that reside on flash/usb/CDR or DVD drives I am after a couple more beta testers.
Basically a program is launched that waits to detect an inserted drive when it does it reads and peforms an action based on a command written in a file on the drive. Information here [Sorry, promoting non-PAF commercial software like this isn't allowed - mod Chris]. I have a contact form and I am still looking for a couple more testers. Not because the program does not work it is how to extend its use. It can even open a web page on insert even without a browser open.
The program could be resident but I went this way to reduce load on resources. I have PA on one drive that loads on insert. ie click on shortcut could be a Hot Key and insert drive That's it. I created it after the security deal that MS did with autoplay. I cannot blame them but it took away choice and that is what this gives back.

Not really spam but more like self promotion which in itself still not really allowed but I'll leave that up to John
