Im not sure if this has been discussed but i have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out why the option to "Pin to Start Menu" is not available for "PortableApps.comInstaller".
Finally figured out the reason.. it contains the word "Installer".
which is prohibited by Microsoft.
To remove "Install" from the list of prohibited words:
- navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileAssociation
- make a backup of registry key
- double-click on "AddRemoveNames"
- delete "Install"
- save
- reboot for changes to take affect
Now create a new shortcut from "PortableApps.comInstaller" and the option to pin to Start Menu will be available
I'm more interested in having my icon on the desktop for start.exe
when I send shortcut to desktop it does not include the icon
it used to, not sure what happened
i just installed the new 10.01 menu ( i think i had 10.00) over again just to see if it would work;
i recall there used to be a icon.png file or something or start.ico ?
i could find any picture on the internet to put on the shortcut but
what do you think is the best solution?
i never 'pin' anything to start menu or taskbar, so not really an issue for me (if you didn't either it wouldn't be an issue for you, lol; an option)
anyways... just thought I'd post here rather than doing a whole new thread

i used variicons (free, open source i believe) and a 'startpa' icon from bing search; was able to make icon from very large picture with variicons; saved to 'portable' folder on c: drive; changed icon from desktop short cut to new icon on c drive
so far so good... got it sittin in bottom right corner so tight only 'button' shows, neato; almost invisible, now, how do i remove the 'icon' from the taskbar while the pamenu is runnin? (in win7)
lemme see if i can get this image thing right ;}
