I posted a few Minecraft Portable dev tests a while back. I have reset the version number and remade it with PAL. Have fun!
Application: Minecraft
Category: Game
Description: "Minecraft is a game about placing blocks while running from skeletons. Or something like that.."
Download Minecraft Portable 1.0.0.1 Development Test 1 [0.5MB download / 9.9MB installed]
(MD5: b26bbe4c6d0fdbf233277f0c2e598788)
Download Minecraft Server Portable 1.0.0.1 Development Test 1 [0.4MB download / 2.2MB installed]
(MD5: 96115fe92cf9e0ccbe7cbc5855d9ddb9)
Keep in mind Minecraft worlds can be quite big! I recommend setting aside at least 500mb per world just to be safe. Otherwise be sure to monitor your disk usage carefully.
As with all Portable Apps, locally-running programs may interfere or modify the program while it runs. In particular a local Dropbox confusedly ends up writing a file to your Minecraft Portable Data directory. Fortunately it is a just a single small file. You can delete it if it bothers you.
The first time you run either server/client you will need to be connected to the internet to download required files. The server can then run offline, the client will need to be set to remember your login credentials to play offline, IIRC.
Release Notes:
Development Test 1 (2012-01-17):
- Initial release.
hey can you make it a into one installer with the ability to deselect packages instead of 2 installers?
That'ssssssssssss a nice post you have there
Unfortunately PAL doesn't appear to support multiple launchers in one directory.
If that wasn't an issue I do believe I could get PAI to allow you to deselect the Server component.
But this way it's a bit cleaner. There's really no reason why they can't be separate anyway since they don't share any files (well except maybe the help and icons).
Signature automatically removed for being too awesome.
Well, sort of. There is some support to it, but we never came to a conclusion about how multiple launchers should work.
Previously known as kAlug.
But is the launcher open source, or have you obtained permission to redistribute it (or rather, does it allow for redistribution without permission)? I trust your judgment, but I don't see anything about any of that.Edit: Nevermind, I didn't notice that it downloaded the launcher rather than including it, since it didn't download it via the installer. My mistake.
Works like a charm my friend. I commend you

sigh, still cant get any mc to work with 64 bit java, unless someone makes a 64 bit java portable ofcourse, and i cant edit the launcher now to make it use 1500 mb of ram, wich is 32 bit max
I love what you have done with this but is there any chance you will be developing a version that uses Java 64? As myself and a few friends crash when trying to set render distance to far, Minecraft also warns us that were using 32 bit Java and to set render distance to Far we should be using Java 64... Java 64 is installed, but evidently the launcher isn't using it Any way of forcing it to do so? By editing any INI's?
Great work!
For Java 7 64bit downloads.

[Update]:
I actually got this to work under 64bit Java. Download jre from above and install. Go to the install folder, in Win7 7 it's C:\Program Files\Java\jre7
You may want to create a backup for \PortableApps\CommonFiles before copying files over.
Copy lib and bin directories and toss them in \PortableApps\CommonFiles\Java
Restart Minecraft and go to video settings No more 32bit warning. Have fun !

You are a superstar!
Thankyou mate! I will give this a try right away!
where do i find the common files it is nowhere to be seen?
If you are running MineCraft on a 64Bit PC, then the pc should have both 32 bit and 64 bit Java installs. (In that order).
This is to support both 32 bit and 64 bit browsers / programs.
If you have a 64 bit machine with only 32 bit Java installed, then you can install the 64 bit version along side.
Always install the 32 bit first. This is true of 7u11 onwards.
If the Java Control Panel has no icon and will not open, then they were installed the wrong way round and the 64 bit will not run correctly.
Hope this is of help.
Barry.

any updates of this?
this first build has seemed pretty stable

Does this work with other launchers, like SK's launcher or the MagicLauncher?
Can you make a portable app for cracked minecraft aswell?
We only do legal things here. Asking for things which are obviously illegal is extremely bad form.
I am a Christian and a developer and moderator here.
“A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” – Proverbs 15:1
It is not illegal if it was Notch and Jeb would have gotten rid of a long time ago
by the way Cracked is the wrong word for it the proper name should be Non-premium access minecraft because most people can't pay the money to play the premium and all that means is that they can't play the official servers!!!
i'm not wierd, i'm just different
I downloaded both of them and ill get started on testing them out :3....or at least playing the heck out them >w
FURRY FOR ALL!!!
i read through the post and looked on how to get java. i found instructions but i couldn't find the common files/java folder the thread was talking about. any help as i have a 64 bit computer and lots of mods on this portable apps version. any help?
You guys that need the Common Files need to Download the Portable Java package from here.
https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/java_portable
This will put Common Files dir in you PortableApps.
Not needed but very handy... https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/java_portable_launcher
Once you have Common Files then follow the directions I posted above for the 64bit fix.
I have been using almost a dozen of these now for months. Each setup for play on different servers. Very handy, I love it. Should probably go ahead and be added to final releases.

well well if it isn't pkeffect, long time no see but pkeffect is correct in needing jportable
your friendly neighbourhood moderator Zach Thibeau
I installed Minecraft Portable and jPortable, downloaded the files on login, and all I get is a black screen. I've tried forcing an update and installing Java locally to no avail. Am I missing something?
Hey MAZZTer. Not sure if you are still around or anyone else that could help. Could someone portable-ize this..
http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1104030-launcher-sks-launcher-v315-e...
So we could use it to launch any other of our portable minecraft installs. I ask because this app handles most of the modding and things itself and allows for custom installation paths already for different minecraft versions/clients...
And, hey hey hey Zach....yes long time. I may not post much but I am always watching
"We exist in a multidimensional polymorphic hyerspacial internode of neurotranslinguistic manifestations subjugated by hyperbolic quantum entanglement."
I LOVE the idea of making Minecraft portable, but I compared it to Minecraft that was installed on my computer and the portable version is slower and often freezes. Please fix this and DON'T let this project die!!!
Thanks.
Its great. ty
Ok so installed minecraft portable and java portable and place on usb flashdrive when i logged in for the first time it updated once done it the screen went black and minecraft closed. Help?
~Mr.Chimp said so~
That ussually happens if the minecraft.jar file is corrupted or you have a duplicate minecraft.jar file that posts after the update as minecraft wont know what to do. I saw with MCPatcher when adding optifine to my .jar file. I mistyped the the save file location and it duplicated my main .jar file which minecraft would just go black and shut off. Just delete the minecraft.jar file from the folder, start the minecraft lancher and tell it to force update.
But on the note of Portable Minecraft:
You guys know you don't need anything (portable apps wise) to make Minecraft portable. You just need a .Bat file to launch it and have it not put anything on the machine (at least with current launcher i.e. not the dev launcher as of version 0.9, which may work but do to the level at which my folders are it probably hit the folder character limit and doesnt know what to do), the dev launcher vs 0.8 this still works.
Just open note pad up and put:
@echo off
echo Loading Minecraft...
SET APPDATA=%CD%\data
Start "Minecraft" Minecraft.exe
then save the note pad document as a Bat file (i.e. minecraft.bat)
Then place the minecraft .exe launcher and the .bat file into a folder on your portable drive and run the .bat file when you want to play minecraft. (the bat and the exe must be in the same folder). with the Dev launcher vs 0.8 put MinecraftDev.exe in place of the Minecraft.exe in the note pad.
Granted this wont put an icon in the portable apps menu, so you'd have to go into the drive to run it but it works and I've never had an issue and I'm running 1.5.2 on it (started with 1.3 when I did this.)
Be nice if the Portable apps launcher let you add a shortcut such as a .bat file to the list of apps.
Sometimes the only people right in this world, are the ones always doing things wrong. Then again that just makes alot of wrong people.
There is a new Launcher out now. So can you make the new Launcher portable, too?
You can download the JAR here https://s3.amazonaws.com/Minecraft.Download/launcher/Minecraft.jar
When you have it downloaded locate this directory in the portable minecraft folder : \MinecraftPortable\App\Minecraft
Then copy over the minecraft.jar file
MAKE SURE TO BACK UP THE OLD FILE FIRST JUST IN CASE!
