Thunderbird 17!

Just got the notification that Thunderbird 17 is available as an update. Has anyone taken the plunge yet? Safe to go ahead with this update?

Over Here

When you notice an app out of date, head to the Development section and click on Official Outdated Apps: https://portableapps.com/development/outdated

It was built earlier today and being released now.

Thanks for the reply and info

Thanks for the reply and info to that other page. never knew it existed.

one additional question: when a major version comes out, is it ok to allow the app to do its own built in update? or is it better to wait for a new portable distribution?

depends

It should be safe to let it upgrade but I always wait for the official version as it might include launcher updates.

Strange things

I just updated to 17 and it causes some problems.

1. It opens the window twice (maybe because I use a master password?)
Closing one, results in closing Thunderbird.

2. The menu bar is blue, it looks terrible.
This can be fixed with changing:
mail.tabs.drawInTitlebar to "false" (reset the title-bar) in Tools - Options - Advanced - Config Editor

So, I wouldn't recommend to upgrade at this point...

Weird configuration

You seem to have some weird configuration going on. I don't see either of those issues after running 17 Beta for a month now.

Strange indeed

and no "weird configuration" - I got the same (not two windows opening) thing with the title bar, which your tip fixed - now it at least looks and seemingly works OK. Wonder why the title bar thing happened though.

Every few versions I get the double-opening thing on my desktop at work (non-portable version).
It has to do with add-ons (for me), and I can usually get it fixed by disabling all add-ons, closing and reopening Thunderbird, then re-enabling the add-ons.

I don't have add-ons, but have the same problem (n° 1) of jeru.
I would like to downgrade. Is it possible? Where can I find old versions of Thunderbird portable?

Double opening

I had the same problem. I found a fix on

It seems to be a problem with the version 17.
The described way using Alt-F4 to close the application was the solution.

Thank you.
I've found another solution (sorry for my english): in the editor I changed this value mail.tabs.drawInTitlebar from true to false.
Thunderbird works fine now.

TB17 and message corruption

There appear to be some well-documented issues regarding stored email being corrupted when mail is moved to local folders from IMAP sources. As far as I have been able to discover, the only current fix for affected users is to revert to 16.0.2 and use folder repair on any damaged folders. Obviously, update checking for TB should be disabled for the time being.

This appears to affect all forms of TB17, not just Portable, in case that's not clear. Sad

No Issues Here

I use Thunderbird daily with 9 IMAP accounts and a 4GB mail store. No issues at all. The issues are likely quite rare or Mozilla would have pulled the release. If Mozilla pulls the release, we will. If they do not, we don't.

May now be fixed

Can't comment on rarity, I can only say that I've seen it personally on TB17.0 portable under XP and, different user/profile/setup, TB17.0 installed under 64-bit Win 7. In both cases, a revert to 16 made the problem go away.

I've also seen it suggested that the new 17.0.2 fixes this bug, but I haven't been brave enough to test the assertion yet. I have some backups to make first... Wink
