is or will there be a way to change path of folder (or add folder paths) in which PortableAppPlatform search which apps are installed and to where they are installed
my problem starts here
i got all my apps in folder c:\programs\all apps here
and i got external settings (shortcuts,paths to audio files,images,icons ETC...) made in that apps and if i move them to other folder i would need to configure all that settings again
im just tired of copying and pasting all apps i want to update to
C:\Programs\Portable Apps Platform\PortableApps
updating than moving them back to the original folder
It would be best to just rename C:\Programs to C:\PortableApps. Then everything will work as expected. All our apps will automatically adjust paths for you as you move them as they are fully portable (unlike most zipped 'portable' apps). There are only a couple exceptions (example: uTorrent's in-progress downloads will need to be repointed to the download folder). Apps from other places, though, you're right... you'll have to reconfigure them.
We may make scanning of other directories a possibility in an upcoming platform update, but it will not work with the updater. It's for folks wanting apps in another path in addition to the PortableApps path.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
"It would be best to just rename C:\Programs to C:\PortableApps."
i figure this part my self
but my problem is that too many apps some not portable uses files i.e. icons wallpapers skins e.t.c. that are located in c:\programs\
and i would need to turn off all apps that use any thing from that folder even so when i do change its name it take some time before i can do anything cause this folder size is over 100 gb so my pc lag for like 1 min well i dont have slow pc but it lags lol
so anyway just option to add new path in which Portable App Platform scan for apps or change path of that folder
for example if you could change/set path of your apps in
\Portable Apps Platform\Autorun.inf
like add a line on the end like this
[Autorun]
Icon=PortableApps\PortableApps.com\App\Graphics\usb.ico
Label=PortableApps.com
CustomDirectory=
in which
i could change last line to
CustomDirectory=C:\progs
or
CustomDirectory=F:\Portable Apps Platform\PortableApps
that would fix the problem
I'm like you in that when running PortableApps on my computer's hard drive I do not have it in C:\PortableApps [mine is actually in C:\BackupUSB]
My workaround is to use the SUBST command to turn C:\BackupUSB into a virtual drive named V:\
I then run PortableApps from V:\ and things like checking for updates work fine![Smile](https://portableapps.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/smile.gif)
I don't know how well that would work on newer versions of Windows (I'm still using XP). There might be much better/easier ways of doing this with W7 or W8.
I have had cases were a (non-PortableApps) installer doesn't work when running from a virtual drive. From memory, the installer for Adobe Acrobat Reader failed when I tried running it from a SUBST virtual drive.
SUBST information page https://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddoc...
and as an example, here is the batch file I use to make turn C:\usbbackup into V:\ and run PortableApps
I'm not sure if that is going to help you, but I thought I'd try to help.
i cant believe im doing it but i dont see any other way
i made a screen of what i was trying to reply cause it post only half of it

Incorrect. Renaming folders on modern file systems take less than a second regardless of size.
i just checked it again to confirm that it lags and guess what You was right it did not
i dont know why it did lag 1st time i changed it
i dont know if it have anything to do with that this folder got over 277k files
i think it lagged cause i made too many things on my pc when i changed it 1st time
well anyway i dont need to do it anymore cause i found a workaround for my problem but TY![Smile](https://portableapps.com/sites/all/modules/smiley/packs/kolobok/smile.gif)
thank You Grantwhy i found another way to solve my problem but thanks to you i was motivated and pointed to find solution for my self
ok so i found this site
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/16226/complete-guide-to-symbolic-links-sy...
on the bottom of the page are 2 download links well i downloaded 2nd one
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896768.aspx
now i extracted this file to my Portable Aapps Platform folder
C:\Programs\Portable Apps Platform
next i rename PortableApps folder located in
C:\Programs\Portable Apps Platform\PortableApps
to PortableAppsa
so now path to it looks like
C:\Programs\Portable Apps Platform\PostableAppsa
u need to rename it but can rename it to anything else u wish its just for backup
next i copy content of
C:\Programs\Portable Apps Platform\PostableAppsa
actually folder named PortableApps.com and file .nomedia
and pasted them to C:\Programs
(i also set them in properties as hidden) seems it dont affect anything
back in Portable Apps Platform
