I'm trying to open a .gpkg file made on Gramps 3.4.2-1 (Windows 8) but it's a not working.
A kind soul from another world sent me some links to read and apparently others are experiencing the same problem. The Gramps portable would be great BUT only if creating and reloading backups isn't an impossible feat so I'm hoping there is some way to either
   * upgrade,
   * use the command line to force the .gpkg to open (so I can at least save as XML or something), or
   * use some 3rd party app to extract whatever files are in the .gpkg.
Thanks, Jill

Hi, it's a known Gramps regression that you can't open files (via command line). The Gramps developers have to fix this issue. It's not a Gramps Portable bug.
You can create a new database and import your backups though (see here).
Bart, thank you! I appreciate your help. That was very quick and painless. Worked like a charm.
