Can't download at all

Hi guys,

Sorry if this was answered already, I couldn't find it.

I tried to download libreoffice several times for few days now, and I can't get anything. I tried both from within launcher and from the web, but no luck. Launcher is saying that downloaded copy is not valid, web page that there is malware on it.

Does anyone know something about this?

Thanks Smile

LibreOffice download

I'm having similar problems with the LO update. I got a notice in the apps update, which searches for updates every time I open PortableApps. It tells me there is an update for LibreOffice and I need to download around 140 Mb. When I click on update the download rate is initially around 20kb/sec and then decreases to around 7kb/sec and eventually crashes. This has been going on for around three days.

It seems to be a problem with LibreOffice since my other updates download 10 to 100 times faster and update with no problem.

Perhaps one of the moderators or someone else is more familiar with what is going on but you are not alone.

Publisher Mirror Network

LibreOffice Portable is hosted by the publisher, The Document Foundation, on their own mirror network. A few of their mirrors are performing very badly due to everyone getting the latest release. I've dropped a note to them to let them know about at least one of them and the overall issue. You'll have the same issue downloading a local copy of LibreOffice as well.

Thanks for the update, and a couple of related questions.

Hi John:

Thanks for the rapid update. I suspected that was the case. Thanks for the clarification. I think I'll wait until next week to update my copy.

Do you know if it will be a fresh install and I'll have to reload all my addins and templates? I hope not but that may be the price of progress. In your opinion is the upgrade worth it?

Thanks again.

Upgrade

This upgrade is definitely worth it. Not just for the sidebar properties if you want to check them out (from Lotus Symphony by IBM via Apache OpenOffice, considered experimental as they're new). Mainly because it's gotten much faster. That was one of the big hits of 4.1.

Any upgrades or add-ins you have in your Data folder will be preserved. As will anything specific in App\libreoffice\share\config. Other stuff will not be.

Thanks for the information

I appreciate the rapid reply and quality of the information. There aren't many forums where the feedback is so spot on. I've decided to upgrade and will wait a few days for the backlog to clear.

Pick Mirror

Until it is fixed, you can use the 'pick your mirror' links to pick a faster mirror and download through the browser. Once you have it, just install right over your existing version.

LibreOffice Portable 4.1.0 Multilingual Normal Mirror List [English (US and GB), Arabic, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazilian and Portugal), Russian, and Spanish]

LibreOffice Portable 4.1.0 Multilingual All Mirror List [All above languages plus all others LibreOffice supports]

You're welcome for the assistance, too. We try and be as helpful as we can.

Thanks for the mirror workaround

I downloaded and installed the latest version and you are right, it works much faster and left my add ins and templates alone. Thanks again.

I cannot download LibreOffice Portable 4.1.3!

Hello everyone,

I have tried for the past 2 weeks (at least) to download LibreOffice Portable 4.1.3, but with no success. I have tried via my wireless connection 10-15 times, and have also tried twice via connecting directly to my Router, but both methods have failed. It can download about 13-16% of the file, then the connection starts losing download speed (wireless) and either loses the connection or it gains more download speed (Ethernet) and then loses the connection.

I also tried the link that Lennart provided, but just like the above, it failed. The first time I tried it, it lost the connection like the wireless; in the second instance, it would slow down, then pick back up, but the reading would indicate that the file (the "Normal" 113 MB file) was smaller - about 40 MB, indicating that it downloaded the whole file. However, when I tried to open it, it said that the file was "corrupted" and would not open.

I had trouble downloading 4.1.2 on my wireless as well. I was finally going to attempt to connect to my router directly when it finally downloaded successfully - it probably was 1-2 weeks after the download was made available.

Would it be possible to get a more stable download path for this file? It is the only one of the several portable apps I use that I cannot download successfully on wireless; all other files will continue to increase in download speed until they are completed, but LibreOffice Portable will not, and I'm on a wireless connection that is very good to excellent 99.9% of the time - I have virtually no trouble downloading any other files, PortableApps.com or otherwise.

Certainly, on Ethernet, it shouldn't be a problem, but there is one, which would indicate to me that there is a problem with the download path hosted by the Document Foundation - after all, this update has been available for at least the last 2 weeks (possibly longer), so I would think most have downloaded this file by now and the download frequency should be much less, meaning it should be easier to download and these download issues shouldn't be happening now because of latency issues or buffer issues.

Hopefully, the Document Foundation can get this fixed, and/or PortableApps can help to get it fixed, as I really like the Office Suite (though it sometimes has trouble keeping all of .docx files intact, sometimes erasing part of the material; I have not found this problem when the file is saved in .doc file mode. I'm not sure why this is - it has caused some issues from time to time as I have done work for clients and for my own projects). However, keeping it updated is almost a necessity, so any permanent fixes to this issue that can be provided as soon as possible would be greatly appreciated - thank you!

Take care,

The link works now

Hi,

I tried to download latest version as soon as I got mail alert about your post and had no problem. In fact, the download speed was very good.

I have used same link as Lennart provided (without his nice sort order touch Smile ) for few times now and it always worked flawlessly. My post is here only to let you know that there are results different than yours.

Hope you'll find the solution.

have you tried using a download manager?

have you tried using a download manager?

at the least, if the download stops the download manager should (hopefully) be able to restart from where it was up to.

I've used Free Download Manager Portable before and recommend it.

If you are using Firefox Portable DownThemAll! Extension (Portable) is a good option as well.

Different mirror?

Using the directory listing in Lennart's post, try the following:

  • Select the 4.1.3 directory
  • Select the "details" link for the desired download
  • Choose a mirror other than the recommended one.
  • If this fixes the problem, please post here the mirror that isn't working, so it can be passed on to The Document Foundation to get fixed.

This is what worked & didn't

After messing around trying to download LibreOffice PAF several times in the last 2 weeks with only about 40MB of the 116MB (Normal) download, I came here for help. What jchengery explained above was happening. The link Lennart gave (http://download.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/portable//?C=M;O=D) went to a page asking for the version of the parent directory. Clicking 4.1.3 gave a choice of multilingualall or multilingualNormal. My choice (multilingualNormal) ALSO HAD THE PROBLEM of quitting after 40MB. So, I went back and clicked Metadata Details which gave 9 mirror sites along with a US map of their location. One (Indiana University)was even in my (dsl) area code and it worked fine. It DID start to slow down after about 38MB but continued slowly and sped back up after about 41MB and went on to finish properly.

So thanks, LibreOffice volunteers for your important application, and thanks, PAF guys, for pointing the way. I thought I'd pass along the results that worked and a clue that my help in the fix.

Thank you for the suggestion- can download, but how to install!

Hello saudretch,

Thank you for the useful information - greatly appreciated! I tried the main download link, and like you, it wouldn't work - it downloaded a 33 MB (or so) file, which was read by my computer as being corrupt and even being unsafe.

So, I looked through the mirror URLs, selected the Indiana one, and downloaded the file. It completely downloaded with no problems - thank you again.

Question, though: You have to install the file manually. The way I have PortableApps on my computer, I installed it on my flash drive, but I also installed it on my main computer so I wouldn't have to use a flash drive each time I wanted to use LibreOffice on my computer.

Therefore, I have the main one I use on my Desktop in a folder called PortableAppsLaunch, with the Documents and PortableApps folder (along with some folders of other portable apps I use that aren't part of the PortableApps group).

My question is, when I install the LibreOffice download, where exactly do I put it in order for it to function properly? Do I put it in that Documents Folder, the PortableApps folder, or do I just put it anywhere in my PortableAppsLaunchFolder (and not necessarily in the Documents or PortableApps folder, both of which are within my PortableAppsLaunchFolder)?

And, is there something else I need to delete first, or can I delete anything after I install it? (I presume I can delete the download application, correct?)

Besides having the convenience of moving the applications from hard drive to flash drive to external hard drive and using them on any computer, I also wanted to try to keep the file download sizes as compact as possible (not fond of installing such bloated applications that take up more room than is necessary). That's why I'm wondering if there's anything I can or should delete after I finish the download.

Again, thank you for the great information - very much appreciated! Smile

Menu

From the menu, click Apps, then Install a New App, then select the PAF installer you downloaded.

Which LibreOffice mirror was serving you the bad 33MB file.

Thank you for the info; the main download file on "Index" page

Hello John, I hope you are feeling much better.

Thank you for the info - didn't even notice that option, but now see it. Will install right away.

Regarding the link that was giving the bad 33MB file, it was the main download link on the index page: http://download.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/portable//4.1.4/Libre...

Seeing the saudretch post beforehand, I went to the Index page with all of the mirror sites on them and chose the Indiana link immediately (I'm in Ohio, and like saudretch, I too am on DSL). That link worked well - didn't notice any noticeable slowdown on my link (though I'm only currently on 3.0 Mbps DSL).

If you'd like, I could test the other mirror links on that page to see if they work - would attempt to complete them by the end of this weekend and report back to you. Let me know either way.

Thank you again for the info - greatly appreciated!

Take care, and keep up the great work with the site and apps!
