I have a vendor that sent me a winPE boot CD to use with their encryption software, but there is very limited functionality with said ISO file - what I would like to know is if it is possible to open up the ISO file with http://www.winiso.com/products/winiso-free.html and add the portable apps directory into my ISO file to have my entire suite of apps available in my winPE ISO file - virus scans, FTP, and any and all other tools that I may need at my disposal.
first, is it possible?
second, if so, where to you put the files - I read they might go in the .WIM file, but haven't found out how to open and edit that file yet.
TIA and keep up the good work!
The problem is that there are issues with it being read-only. The PA.c Platform/Menu doesn't support read-only locations anymore. And not all apps do, either. Since no retail drives do read-only anymore and optical is dying, we stopped testing and coding for it.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Put the PortableApps folder NEXT to the ISO file on the flash drive. Boot the ISO (Grub4DOS or Grub2), access the folder. And it is on a writable media.
As for whether the PA apps will all run is another story. A PE environment is not a full fledged Windows environment, things are missing, things that some/many PA apps require. But some should work.

When the PA folder is NEXT to the ISO file(s) the PA apps can be used on the flash drive even when an ISO isn't booted.

Thanks Ed, sometimes the simplest solutions will answer the most difficult questions.
I guess I tend to over think things every now and again!
