jPortable 7 Update 45 (formerly Java Portable) has been released by PortableApps.com. jPortable (32-bit and 64-bit) allows you to easily install the Java® runtime engine to your PortableApps.com-enabled device for use with portable apps like LibreOffice Portable and Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition, and Google Chrome Portable, all without any Java runtime on the local PC. This release updates Java to the latest version, fixing a security issue. It's packaged in PortableApps.com Format for easy use from any portable device and integration with the PortableApps.com Platform. It's freeware for business and personal use.
Update automatically or install from the portable app store in the PortableApps.com Platform.

Features
jPortable allows you to easily add a Java® runtime environment to your portable device. It automatically works with apps in PortableApps.com Format like OpenOffice.org Portable. No Java® runtime environment needs to be installed on the local machine and no admin rights are required. The JVM will be downloaded directly from Oracle's servers as part of the installation process.
jPortable Launcher
In addition to using jPortable with portable apps packaged in PortableApps.com Format, you can also use our jPortable Launcher to run Java apps in JAR format. It will even automatically portablize the settings of many Java apps.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format
jPortable is packaged as a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It supports upgrades by installing right over an existing copy, preserving all settings. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

Sourceforge problems again?
looks like Sourceforge is misbehaving again.
Clicking the download link on the jPortable page currently ends up at https://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/
and when I look in the jPortable folder 7u45 doesn't seem to be there.

Fixed
The download link changed and I hadn't updated the app homepage. Sorry about that. It's fixed now.
Platform downloads were unaffected.
Does not work after update
Just updated all my apps using PortableApps.com Updater, jPortable 32-bit (Version 7 Update 45) and Google Chrome Portable (Version 31.0.1650.63), running Java in Chrome browser does no work anymore.
Same thing happened when I did my previous update (https://portableapps.com/news/2013-09-11--jportable-7-update-40-released...)
Please advise.
Update:
Just found out the latest Java is Version 7 Update 51, is it because Google Chrome Portable (Version 31.0.1650.63) is looking for this version of Java to run only?
Update 2:
Installed the latest version (Version 7 Update 51) of Java and now it's working fine now. Guess will stick using the official Java instead of jportable from now on.
Updating
51 came out yesterday and fixes a security vulnerability, so Chrome and Firefox (rightly) block access to 50 and earlier. jPortable 51 will be released shortly.
Jportable update
Hi John
This fix is great. In the meantime is there any workarounds that we can apply to our portable package?
Also do you have an idea when this will be available?? two days or like two weeks timeframe???
We are having the same issues starting yesterday when java released 51.
We are running firefox portalbe 25.0.1
Everything was working fine,,,,,,, do you know what happened??
Thanks for your assistance in advance as well.
Today, Update Now
They're normally released within a few hours of the local versions but are running a bit behind due to my health. They should be out today.
You should update Firefox ASAP. 25.x has critical security vulnerabilities.
RE: Today, Update Now
Hi John,
Hope you feel better and everything is ok!
We will be watching for the new version to be released later on today as you noted.
Agree on the firefox update. Instead of downloading the latest portable 26 version, are there any issues with updating the firefox by using the drop down in firefox under Help/About/update ?
Finally - going forward, is there some other fix or way to prevent future sun java release from impacting FireFox portable integration? Condidering that 1.7.45 was installed, was very suprised to see that Java stopped working overnight!
Thanks for all your support and product guidance.
Best -
By Design
Firefox disabling Java access when you're running a version with public security vulnerabilities is by design. They've even disabled it when there wasn't yet an updated version of Java you could upgrade to that patched the vulnerability.
Incidentally, Update 51 is out and being pushed to platform users.
You can update Firefox using the internal updater though it may leave an empty directory behind on the local PC. We recommend using the PA.c Platform to auto-update both Firefox Portable and jPortable.
