problems with using portable java and installed java at the same time

Hallo,

I have to use a program that requires a certain version of Java (1.7.45) and Browswer (Firefox v17) as client.

I thought hard about this problem, because not only me but also other users have already installed a newer version of Jave (e.g. 1.7.51) and Firefox.

I tried to download portable versions of Java and Firefox and using them as a client to access the program without using the installed versions.

This works fine, but Java causes the following problems

1) I have installed the newest version of Java and a portable version of Java. I want to change the settings of the portable Java without changing any settings of the installed Java via the Java console. But if I change the settings for the portable Java, the settings for the installed Java change as well. Isnt it possible to change the settings of my portable version, without influencing the installed one?

2) Using the portable version which is not the newest one causes everytime system messages to upgrade to a newer version in case of the portable version, but in case of the installed version I want to have the update. Is there no good way to switch off the update check for the portable version, but leave the update check for the installed version?

As I said, I will use the portable version only for accessing a certain program, but for all the other programs I will use the installed version with is uptodate.

java settings

Java settings are PC wide, not portable, and don't normally need to be changed.

If using an outdated Java, I think Firefox will always prompt to upgrade now. I think it may even deny access, or will in an upcoming version. outdated java is a huge security risk.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
