Application: TrueCrypt
Category: Utilities
Description: TrueCrypt is a software system for establishing and maintaining an on-the-fly-encrypted volume (data storage device). On-the-fly encryption means that data are automatically encrypted or decrypted right before they are loaded or saved, without any user intervention. No data stored on an encrypted volume can be read (decrypted) without using the correct password/keyfile(s) or correct encryption keys. Entire file system is encrypted (e.g., file names, folder names, contents of every file, free space, meta data, etc).
Release Notes:
This App was removed on 2104-06-01.
Development Test 1 (2014-05-29)
- Initial release (TrueCrypt 7.1a)
- Still some problem with language switching...
- Previous version
This app should be on market as soon as possible
TrueCrypt is not actually open source. The source is available, but it's under a special license that is non-free (according to the Free Software Foundation, OSI, Ubuntu, FreeBSD, Debian, etc). Modified versions can not contain the TrueCrypt name and the original authors can sue you for releasing a modified or differently packaged version.
Basically, TrueCrypt has always been intended as source-available freeware that could be shut down by the original authors.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
So, there is no chance of having it as a PortableApp here?
Cheers,
Sam
If you go to http://truecrypt.org, it forwards you to http://truecrypt.sourceforge.net/. They state that Truecrypt has been discontinued. They are recommending people to use BitLocker, and give how to instructions (ya right). The last version v7.2 is read only. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...

Don't despair The TC is continued by a new developer team from Switzerland. It is called TCnext now. https://truecrypt.ch/
This is one of may TC-ish projects that pulled the source and renamed TrueCrypt. Like the others, this one was abandoned right afterwards. You'll note not a single change in their github since they added the original code. So, you're just as well using the last proper TrueCrypt release.
There's also the matter of TrueCrypt being under a proprietary non-free license that basically disallows forks.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
The app will be removed due to the above comments and facts.
Hope to get a good replacement for it as I use it for more than 4 years...
Cheers,
Sam
I'm in the same position. I'm still looking for an alternative.

I believe myself that TrueCrypt has simply gone underground for personal safety reasons. I was going to write "security reasons" because that is what it is. The security software securely hid itself in a hidden volume ;-).
Basically, unless the latest version gets compromised in some way (the documentation e.g. refers to advances in cryptanalysis breaking the included algorithms and one can imagine advances in computing speed making the ciphers less useful at the provided bit-lengths) this software is still perfect to use, as far as I can see.
And if you can't call it "TrueCrypt" just call it "FakeTomb" ;-).
TCnext is option for you. Please visit their homepage.
