I was wondering if you ever plan to add this feature to the platform: the ability to lock a particular portable app with a password. This would be very useful for apps with sensitive data (a browser with passwords, for instance). OR, how about a master password for the whole platform? I personally think this would be a great new feature~
Please consider my suggestion...
Thanks~
Upcoming platform features are detailed here: https://portableapps.com/node/28593
If you have secure data, you should get a hardware encrypted drive. That's the absolute best thing to do and the only way to ensure you can access it on every PC. If you get the PortableApps.com Carbide in our Hardware section, you can access it on any device that has USB even if it doesn't have the ability to run anything.
Encrypting just one folder... say a browser's settings... would require that you create an encrypted contained like a 7z store, add all the files to it, then securely erase all the files. This would take a long time to do on exit and a long time to do the reverse on start.
If you specifically want to secure your browser's data, use Firefox and set a master password. Your profile will be encrypted with that password and inaccessible without it.
If you're thinking of similar utilities that claim to "lock" a folder. They're fake. They just use some tricks of Windows to make it inaccessible via the standard methods. You can still get at the files fairly easily with a quick Google. I was debating adding this sort of "security" to the platform but with a big warning that it's not really secure, it'll just keep the basic prying eyes out.

But I use chrome.....
Too bad chrome doesn't have a master password.....

I know this is kinda off-topic, but I didn't want to make a whole new topic just for this one question:
If I have only one portable app, and I hide it, how do I show it again?
Do I have to download another app just to show it again?
Or is there another method?
Thanks in advance....

Use the search box and type some of the name. That might work. I'm not sure offhand.

Doesn't work...
Might want to fix that "bug", cuz it's really annoying to have to download a new app just to unhide an app.... -.-

If you only have one app, why would you hide it? The point of Hide is to hide auto-detected EXEs for non-PortableApps.com apps that have secondary EXEs you don't want showing up in the menu.

If you right-click on the "empty" menu, you might be able to use the "show hidden" context option. I don't know for sure, though.
That doesn't work.....

right click on any app, show hidden icons?
Then look for the crossed out hidden app you want to unhide, right click then uncheck hide.

A simple trick to do it without having to download another app:
1) In your PortableApps folder, create a subfolder (you can keep the default name "New Folder" if you want)
2) In that folder, create an empty file and change its extension to ".exe". When I tested, I created an empty file "abc.txt" and renamed it to "abc.exe". Windows will probably warn you that the file "may become unusable" if you change its extension, confirm the change with "Yes".
3) Next time you open the platform, it will show the "abc" item. You can use it to unhide your one and only app
4) Now you can delete your "New Folder" together with "abc.exe", you don't need them any more
Edit: Another, even quicker way to do it is to manually edit the file "PortableAppsMenu.ini" file (you can find it in the "PortableApps.com\Data" subfolder of your PortableApps folder) and remove its [AppsHidden] section.
If you have hidden only one icon, it should have only one line showing something like "yourappnameportable\yourappnameportable.exe=true", where "yourappnameportable" is the name of your app.
Remember that any manual edits to .ini files are performed at your own risk. Saving a backup copy of the file before editing is recommended.

I wish there was an option to right click anywhere on the platform.....
That would save people a whole lot of trouble....
@John T. Haller: how about making a new feature like that?

Remember when editing PortableAppsMenu.INI, that the platform must not be running, otherwise the changes will not be saved.
Thanks for reminding me!

I added the ability to show hidden apps directly from the Apps icon's popup menu on the right side of the PortableApps.com Platform in today's 13.0 release. You can now select to Show Hidden Apps when all apps have been hidden once you've updated to the new version.

I posted a thank you topic (I didn't see your post here before)
Anyway, thanks a lot!!

I have a new idea for the PA platform: how about customizable hotkeys that we set to launch our favorite apps?
That would be a cool new feature...
