Asia/ Dili is not +9:00, it should be +5:30

In your user account details, timing is shown wrongly.

Asia/ Dili is not +9:00, it should be +5:30.

And it is not really Dili, it should be "New Delhi"

This is the first time I have seen such a silly mistake in any site in my 20 years of internet life.

Please correct.

Thanks.

Warning

This is the second post tonight I've seen from you not playing nice, the last one having been edited.

To review, the forum guidelines include:

Be Polite and Patient - If you're looking for help with something, feel free to post a question about it. Keep in mind, though, that this is free, open source software. Everyone on here is developing and helping support these apps in their spare time.

AND

Play Nice - This community is only as strong as its members. As such, everyone is expected to conduct themselves accordingly. Name-calling, insults, etc have no place here. This shouldn't even have to be mentioned, but there have been some bad apples in the past.

Consider this your warning.

in addition

in addition to gord's warning, you're tearing into a new user for a simple misunderstanding of a time zone. There have been bugs in Drupal's timezone lists before, if there was one now we'd just pass it on. Chasing away new users for no reason is one of the surest ways to keep a community from growing.

Thanks John,

Thanks John,

yeah I am a new user, and had been fed up with repeated installation of so many software in windows 7-8-10 and then their all settings and work data are gone in each new install. So, I wanted to use portable apps to overcome this.

Thanks again.

Dili != New Delhi

This time zone location is for Dili, the capital of East Timor, not New Delhi.

Thank you for taking the time to point out what you thought was an error, though Smile

Oh Thanks for pointing out

Oh Thanks for pointing out

I got it.
It is Asia/ Kolkata: +530 for me.

though I wonder why Kolkata?
The capital of India is "New Delhi", that is what I searched and anyone from India would search.
How does anyone know that one has to search for Kolkata or any of the other 500 cities we have?

So, forgive me for original quick post but please realize that the list is problematic.

Thanks.

Drupal

If you would like something different, you can ask the folks at Drupal.org. This website runs on Drupal. We don't control the time zones. Drupal likely obtained the list from somewhere. It could be a political reason based on conflict over a name of a place, based on population, etc. Nearly all time zone lists are a bit wonky. But you'd have to ask them.

Standardized

The time zone identifiers appear to be fairly standardized. Here is some information I've found that may help explain the naming convention.

On the below page, there's mention of the Asia/Kolkata timezone identifier.

New Delhi became the capital

New Delhi became the capital of India on 13 February 1931, (earlier one was Calcutta, which is now renamed to Kolkata).

Seems Drupal guys love to use ancient historical data. Smile

Thanks.

The response above is from a forum user and done in violation of our forum guidelines. Gord is a moderator and was correct in editing the other post and warning the user here. I am the project runner and wanted to add my weight to ensure the warning is heeded.

My sincere apologies for the response above. Please know that it does not represent the PortableApps.com team or developers. As this is a public forum anyone can join, there will be occasional abuses. We try to handle them without relying too heavily on editing or bans but will do so with repeated infractions of our "be nice" guidelines.
