Looking for a good portable backup program - suggestions welcome

Can anyone suggest a good (by which I mean "actually works"), portable backup program, ideally one with some support attached. If it's good, I don't mind paying for it. I've tried the PA platform backup; when it repeatedly failed to complete and I posted a request for some help, I was advised not to use it (?). I've tried Toucan, which also fails, and for which I can't seem to get any answers as to how to debug and correct. So, again, alternatives are sorely needed as I'd like the process to be as painless as possible once set up (i..e I don't want to sit at my computer dragging and pasting in Explorer every other night), and, as we all know, backups are critical. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

I used this several years ago

but I used the full install version, it worked good. I'm not up to date on this version. The full had scheduled back ups, different type of backing up.

Thanks for the suggestion gmbudwrench. Hopefully, I'll be able to give it a try this evening. I'll post results as soon as I have them.

RE: I used this several year ago - Update

Update to my earlier reply to gmbudwrench: Since 2brightsparks have several SyncBack versions, I thought I'd give the free one a try first. It was pretty easy to set up, and, better yet, it actually completed without getting hung or ending with some esoteric error message. I used the default compression setting, 5, so the backup file is quite a bit bigger than some I've done with Toucan or PortableApps built-in, but since they usually failed to complete, I can't say for sure whether their smaller size has anything to do with 7zip compression or the fact that they ended prematurely. I'll try another backup tonight using a higher compression setting in SyncBack, but, so far, it's impressive and works like a charm.

freefilesync

start here

https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/freefilesync-portable

loads of background reading to do on this.

in short if you don't mind non-PA portability and *must* have latest then http://www.freefilesync.org/

warning: discussion about this rather than just making your own mind up can involve feet being stamped
