Is NSIS Portable needed for PortableApps.com Installer & PortableApps.com Launcher?

The former has "Proven NSIS installer core" and the latter has "Proven NSIS core bundled inside".
Does it mean it's no longer necessary to also download NSIS and put it in a folder next to them?
Installer has no manual but Launcher has https://portableapps.com/manuals/PortableApps.comLauncher/intro/quicksta... which states "To use the PortableApps.com Launcher, you will need to download and install NSIS Portable (the Unicode variant).

RE: Is NSIS Portable needed for PortableApps.com Installer & Por

When using PortableApps.com Installer, you don't need NSIS Portable installed. When using PortableApps.com Launcher however, NSIS Portable is required.

"Proven NSIS installer core" essentially means that NSIS is used as intended (for building setup programs), whereas "Proven NSIS core bundled inside" essentially means that NSIS is used for a more advanced purpose than what it was designed for (for building applications/launchers using NSIS as a programming language).

John or someone else will be able to provide a better understanding of what those phrases mean, but that is pretty much the gist of it.

EDIT: Wasn't aware that NSIS is now bundled in the PAL too. Please disregard my comments on the matter.

Both bundle their own copy of NSIS.

The PA.c Installer & Launcher each have a copy of NSIS bundled in them, thus they can be used without having NSIS Portable for now, however there were discussions a while back about possibly making them use NSIS Portable to reduce the need for developers to have multiple copies of NSIS.

[Edit: As John says, both the Launcher & Installer have NSIS bundled inside them. My original comment incorrectly stated that the Installer required NSIS Portable & the Launcher had a bundled in it.]

So the whole linked documentation should be deleted

As it's no longer true.

No

It's bundled with both. Not sure why you created two topics that are basically the same: https://portableapps.com/node/56625

The other one was a Unicode issue

I wanted to avoid confusion.

Similar enough not to warrant two new threads at once.

The two seem to be somewhat related, and are certainly similar enough that starting two separate threads at the same time was a bit unnecessary.

The need for NSIS can be

The need for NSIS can be removed from packaging with PAL. I've successfully done it without problem. I'm pretty sure the same can be done with PA.c Installer although I haven't tried yet.

Of course it can be done.

It's rarely a question of if something can be done, but rather a question of "should it be done", or "is someone going to do it".
