i hope i haven't just overlooked this topic someplace... if i did, mea culpa.
i have used Portable FF 1.5.0.? for a long time to access Yahoo!s mail "beta". i got a spiffy new 2gb USB stick and decided to load the new "suite" package.
i have FF 2.0.? loaded on my laptop and it works with the Yahoo! mail beta site. (and continues to do so...)
Yahoo! whines that i need mozilla 1.7 or later (...and silly me, i figure that FFP 2.0 meets that requirement...) when i use FFP from the suite off of my new USB stick.
my assumption is that some slight change has happened to the browser ID string that FFP sends back to sites to let them know what browser you're using. i would think that the small change has caused Yahoo! to "burp" and misidentify FFP as something totally alien.
i looked at about:config thinking that i could reconfigure that string but i did not see it...
anyone have any ideas about how to work around this issue??
many thanks in advance!!

Here's the home page.
FFP has the exact same user agent as regular FF unless something was changed in your copy. So, if a local copy of FF works with the Yahoo Mail Beta, FFP will work the same way.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
...that if you have FF 2.0 and FFP 2.0 running things should work exactly the same...
and i have a laptop where i was working on setting things up on this new USB stick i bought (2gb, free after rebates... price was really right!) and i have a copy of FF2.0 that hooks up to the Yahoo! mail beta just fine and my shiny new copy of FFP2.0 doesn't...
it seems pretty darn odd to this old coder...
i grabbed FF2.0 from the getfirefox site a few weeks back when i got the laptop. i grabbed the PortableApps suite yesterday. (not that i think this is really related to the problem...)
i am going to snag the user agent switcher and see if i can make it do its thing and will probably do some research into this later today. i bugs me that i have 2 copies of the same dang program that don't behave pretty close to exactly alike.
and if you're tracking this conversation John, you've done a very beautiful thing for the world. if i couldn't run these tools from a USB stick, my day at a locked-down-by-Microserf-lovin'-fools computer would be really sucky. my thanks!!
not 10 minutes ago, FFP put up one of those "you need to update" boxes for version 2.0.0.1. normally i go "c'mon i got 47 tabs open!! don't bug me!!" but today i let it do its thing...
lo and behold! the yahoo! mail beta works again...
not sure if its just coincidental or 2.0.0.1 fixed something but it works again.
Yay!
Just as a heads up, I had the same issue. Patching PFF to 2.0.0.1 fixed the problem.
The labs here at school have firefox 2.0.0.0. Yahoo mail beta refuses to load on any of them unless you update to 2.0.0.1 and if you do DeepFreeze changes it back to 2.0.0.0 at restart. Stupid school computers
I am trying to switch once again. I kept getting the script not working error message before. I have 2.0.0.1 so we will see how it works this time. I have tried 3 times before.
