Hello everyone, I have recently discovered portable apps and have been looking exactly for something like this. I do a lot of work on different devices all the time and this is perfect for organizing. I have a 256gb Samsung USB that's type c as well. Sometimes I work on files on my phone so a type c flash drive is very helpful. I understand that portable apps won't work on Android and that's ok but would I still be able to use the flash drive as before to work on files when plugged into my phone? Should I split the 256gb into different partitions? Also what would be a best way for me to lock the drive so that if someone gets a hold of it? Thank you and have a wonderful day.
I think that if you install the PA.c launcher on your 256 GB USB drive, you will get a Documents folder (with Music, Picture and Video) for having doc or pdf etc. So for using your phone as well, yes I think you could see your file with a file manager (or some app to modify your file) on your phone and managed to used them. About the partition/encryption, I think it is your choice to make about if you want your drive to be secure or be easy access for yourself because you know that your USB type c drive is in a safe place (if you want there is Veracrypt in a Portable format) . I don't know if it help but I hope its the case. Have a good day.

Yes that's perfect. I played with veracrypt today and it looks like if the whole drive is encrypted then the phone won't be able to read the drive and you need the veracrypt app in order to unlock it. So I was thinking should I split the drive into 2 partitions?
If possible sure, it will help having a "public" partition for accessing your file via your phone and the encrypted partition will be unlock with Veracrypt portable on PC. Just make sure to backup everything before changing your partition just in case.
EDIT: Check Gord Caswell anwser instead.

Not necessarily, no.
Veracrypt has the ability to work in two ways - with full partitions, or disks, encrypted, and with containers.
In your situation, I would suggest using a container rather than messing with partitions on a usb drive, as this would allow you to do exactly what you're looking for - have access to the drive from your phone while maintaining an encrypted section that is accesible only from VeraCrypt.
