TB lost FF portable file association after FF update

Once again FF updated automatically and removed all user controls over the process. This time, in addition to messing up add-ons, it also screwed up its default settings and would not stick as the default program. TB would not open FF Portable and resorts to the generic FF without my profile on PC. Time to return to a FF Portable old version? I'm sick of fiddling with "improvements" no one asked for! Last attempt at fixing it...

Same issue, I'm considering

Same issue, I'm considering going back to Iron browser portable. Increasingly seem to be experiencing issues with FF updates and addons not working.

Firefox policies.json

If you want to stop automatic update in Firefox you can add a distribution folder too the 32/64 bit firefox:

FirefoxPortable/App/Firefox and FirefoxPortable/App/Firefox64, then you add the distribution folder inside with a policies.json that contain this;
{
"policies": {
"AppUpdateURL": "http://127.0.0.1/",
"DisableAppUpdate": true
}
}

(i.e. FirefoxPortable/App/Firefox64/distribution/policies.json)

PS: when doing a portableapps update, the distribution folder stay.
PPS: PortableApps can't stop for 100% the update like this for us. Link

still need help

FF finally switched to default, but TB still opens the local version without my profile. How do I make it choose FF portable when TB options do not provide that choice? Control Panel does not list FF portable either with the drive plugged in all the time and it does not offer a choice to browse for it.

I'm a relative beginner so will need detailed instructions how to stop updates.

I kept an installer for FF portable old versions on the same thumb drive and was switching to it many times before after unwanted updates, but now noticed it's gone! Do I have to keep it on a separate drive to prevent this?! It looks like my moniker Mozfan will soon turn to Mozfannomore...

What I know is that you can

What I know is that you can make firefox portable by default in windows with this tools https://www.winhelponline.com/blog/register-firefox-portable-with-defaul.... But sorry for the rest because I don't understand what you want to do with ThunderbirdPortable.

when I click

on a link in TB portable messages it opens local FF without my profile, not the portable one. I always had FF portable as default and TB always opened its links in it. This latest FF update killed that connection. I do not want any links opened in a local browser so I need to restore the FF portable as default in TB portable or revert to another version or another portable browser that does not shove updates down your throat.

Problem solved

thanks to this https://www.winhelponline.com/blog/register-firefox-portable-with-defaul...

TB portable now opens links in FF portable. It's too bad 3d party solutions are needed to fix problems caused by these updates. Next task - putting a stop to them...

OK, I found detailed instructions

for local FF to stop updating, but replaced their code with yours in notepad policies.json files in both firefox and firefox64 extensions, is that right? My chosen theme was also switched to default with the last update Now we'll see if it can finally stop these hassles...Thanks for your help
