Update apps without Portableapps program

Hello, I can access the portable apps website from work, but when I install the portable apps application, it cannot get a list of apps. I assume my work's firewall is blocking it. So, I plan on downloading individual apps instead of using the portable apps application. Once I do that, how do I check for updates for individual apps?

I am not sure if "portable apps application" is the right term. I am referring to the app that shows up next to the clock to launch / install programs.

Thanks!

2 options

If your firewall blocks the updater as well, you can go to
https://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/
and subscribe to the RSS feed of your apps. You will then receive notification about new versions of your apps in your news reader. You would then have to download and install the updates manually.

Alternatively, if the block is by the network firewall and not the local firewall, and you can connect your computer to another wifi, connect it to your phones hotspot e.g. and get the apps and updates over your mobile data plan. Best if you have a company phone Wink

Check the Appropriate Thread for Apps Being Updated

You can check for apps that in the process of being updated or are to be updated by visiting this thread: https://portableapps.com/development/outdated If an app is flagged as being 'built' that means that someone is working currently actually working on the update. If the app isn't flagged in such a way it means that the app will be updated sometime when someone has the time to build the new version.

To deal with it that way you would need to check that thread regularly. I check it daily. I don't use the PortableApps Platform at all, but I don't the daily update check onerous, it only takes a minute or two. Once you see app 'X' is being/has been update just download it manually.

Use Portable Apps on both Flash Drive and HDD/SSD.

Another way...

You can simply visit the News page here on PortableApps.com (PA.c) frequently. All PA.c updates (and not only the ones hosted on sourceforge) are announced on that page. It has a RSS-feed, too, if you like to monitor it automatically.

Firewall not blocked

Firewall not blocked connection. I can download, install applications.

But I can update applications.

For example, I have installed version of DSyncronize 2.45... I want to update (because on site - 2.46 version), but get message - "All portable apps are up to date".

If I choose Get more Apps - Recently Updated and choose new version of DSyncronize ... after installing I see 2 versions of this program...

Internet Explorer

You can test whether the Windows Internet components that the PortableApps.com Platform relies on are working by attempting to download via Internet Explorer. As a general rule, ensure that Windows is fully up to date and that all patches available on Windows Update have been applied. If you are using Windows Vista, after applying all updates, apply the Windows Vista TLS 1.1/1.2 patch to ensure you can download from servers with modern encryption. Windows XP updates do not appear to work in enabling TLS 1.1/1.2.

Also, remember that if you rename an app's directory, the PA.c Platform will not see it as installed so will not offer to update it.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
