When I disable the enterprise policy, firefox will instantly try to update me to the latest version 71.0, but I only want to update to 69 or 70, but not 71.0, so how can I do that on an existing portable installation?
Is there a .mar file I can use to perform a manual in-place upgrade?
I don't know if the "Enterprise" change something or if you really need a .mar file but you can check on sourceforge for the right file and apply the update on your old Firefox v68 in PAF.
Sourceforge link:
All Stable Firefox and ESR
Firefox 69
Firefox 70

Will applying the update the way you suggested preserve ALL the settings configurations I've made (including the enterprise policies and about:config settings)?
Normally yes (I have myself a distribution folder in App/Firefox and App/Firefox64 for policies and it is still here) BUT you can do a backup of FirefoxPortable folder and if something goes wrong you just have to re-copy the backup.

Normally, will the in-place upgrade preserve all the settings configured in Options pages
AND
in the about:config panel?
Yes

Tried it. Installed it in same directory. Checked and launched it. Everything is still there including Admin disabled updates policy! So it Worked just as I wanted! Thanks!
Ah! Spoke too soon!
Remember when v68.0 would be moved to a new location, the first load would be with themes & addons disabled?
Well I have another firefox portable (set to update automatically as normal) and it didn't have that issue when it updated to 70.0.
But my enterprise version at v70 reproduces the above theme&addon issue upon first load. How can I fix it without losing the configurations I've been trying to protect?
I don't know how to fix this problem.. This bug is still not fixed and mention in this thread.
PS: My only temporary solution that worked out for me is to Re-open it a second time (after every process was closed) and everything is fine. My situation is that I have a USB key in ExFat that I use somewhere else than my home PC and when I come back I synchronise my files to my PC and then the bug in Firefox/Thunderbird happen to me too.

That thread talks about 68 & 69. But I tried to 70 & even tried 71, but still the bug happens. It doesn't happen on my other portable version 69+, just my enterprise version.
No this thread has the title Firefox/Thunderbird 68+ with a + (plus). So they know that the bug is still in the new version.
