Is it possible to have a checkable option to set the default save location of a new document to the drive where AbiWord is located rather than the hard drive of the host PC?
Seems strange and unintuitive that when you're running a portable application the default save for AbiWord is to the hard drive of the host PC that you're trying to keep your files away from in the first place.
Ideas?
that would be a good idea.

AbiWord provides no setting to be able to default this. OpenOffice.org Portable does and will automatically set the documents path to X:\Documents if it exists.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
You can modify the AbiWord.Profile file in Data\settings to set a default save directory. In the <Scheme name="_custom_" section of the profile, add the following line:
DefaultSaveDirectory="my\path\" (note: you can use relative or absolute paths).
I don't know if this can be handled automatically by the launcher, but you can definitely do it on your own :).
I think John could add that in the next release, it's fairly easy as I've learned.

I've added this functionality to new installs or clean data resets in the AbiWord Portable 2.8.6 Rev 3 release.

Thank you for your answer. I am using lubuntu. Can you help ?
We aren't a general support forum for either Abiword or Lubuntu. Try asking in the Lubuntu support forum: https://ubuntuforums.org/tags.php?tag=lubuntu
OK, thank you. When I searched for this topic, you were the only one talking about it.
Thanks' for the link.
