Auto update for portable app check?

I recenlty upgraded manually to 91.6. Today I get a message saying would I iike to upgrade it? Am I right to say the portableapp Thunderbird version does not support auto updates like this? Should I turn off the update checker?

Outdated Official Portable Applications

Some apps will update within their own folders, which will stay ignored by the platform. Others may suggest to download an installer.
The best way is to report outdated apps in this thread, to let developers know.

Platform vs Internal

If you let Thunderbird update itself to 91.6, that means that the ThunderbirdPortable\App\Thunderbird64 instance of the app updated itself (assuming you're on a 64-bit machine). The 32-bit version and launcher and portable files did not, though. If you use the PA.c Platform, it's best to update via the platform as it will update everything, including some upcoming improvements to the ThunderbirdPortable.exe launcher.

Updates for standalone version?

Thanks for the answer John! I use TB standalone without the platform and I am on 91.6 (64 bit) since about 1 week ago.
I did not let the update happen that I mentioned in the OP.
I am still unsure if I should when I get that message in my standalone scenario or if I need to wait for the portable version to drop?
It doesn't look like there is a newer release so I wonder why I got the message...

Can Use Both

If you only use it on 64-bit machines (or only on 32-bit), you can let the Thunderbird updater update it. It won't update the other copy (32 or 64 bit) nor will it update the ThunderbirdPortable.exe launcher. And it will leave some non-personal bits behind on the local machine. But it'll otherwise work without issue.

You should update using the manual method outlined here on a regular basis: https://portableapps.com/support/portable_app#upgrading

This will update both copies of Thunderbird within the portable package as well as the portable launcher. This is particularly important when a major release makes big changes (like when we went from 78.x to 91.x) or when I add new features to the launcher (I'm adding in better portablization of prefs.js in the next couple weeks, for instance).
