Update is impossible, because «Automatic App Closing» does not work – the program has long been closed, but the main window does not see this and reporting about a some «app».
I had to kill:
PS > (Get-Process "*portableapps*").Kill()
Very convenient.

Please provide more details including the exact error, not just 'some app' as well as your OS version, install path, etc.

The following error occurred by Updater. This error has not occurred on other systems. So I used PortableApps.com_Platform_Setup_23.0.paf.exe. It succeeded.
DOWNLOADINVALID=The downloaded copy of %CURRENTAPPNAME% is not valid and can not be installed. This could be due to an incomplete download or other network issue. Please try running the updater again when complete.
