I'm so grateful to have discovered such a great piece of software when I did, and quite candidly I really wish that I would have discovered the platform much sooner than I did !! I'm currently running the portableapps software on a San Disk Cruzer Glide 128 GB USB Thumb Drive, while I'm thinking about the subject, is there a certain technical specification that needs to be met so as to be able to the best results overall ? Glad to hear it's been helpful for you. As for drive specs, use something like CrystalDiskMark to check out the performance across a number of different use cases. Most drives are marketed with just a max read/write speed, which is calculated with sequential writes... like copying a big video file to or from the drive. When running apps from a drive, it's the smaller random reads and writes that are more important. And these will often come down to the memory controller, chips, and cache handling of a given drive.

For comparison, I daily drive an SSK 128GB Dual Drive (about $25 on Amazon). It's about twice the cost of your drive but compare its performance. In particular, notice how much faster the random small writes are.

Thanks for sharing the amazon link, I don't think that I'm actually needing a dual connection (usb c & usb type a) thumb drive. I came across this one:
t.ly/bkqB0 do you think this might perform somewhat better than the thumb drive I'm currently utilizing ? Just for comparison purposes:
Amazon Basics 128 GB Flash Drive - Read speed up to 130Mbps and write speed up to 30Mbps
Current SanDisk 128 GB Flash Drive - Read Speed up to 130MB/s and write speed up to 40 Mbps
The "up to X" numbers are sequential mostly meaningless in terms of app performance. Even if you only use the USB-A connector for now, that drive I linked will be MUCH better than either of these others. If you hate the dual sided thing, the Samsung Bar 128GB ($20) will also give good performance. I have a 256GB one that I use for carrying system images so can't benchmark it at present. Check out the reviews on Amazon in that link and you'll see people post pictures of the CrystalDIskMark stats.

Overall it does seem somewhat faster, I got rather frustrated earlier today when I received my order from amazon. Even before I opened the plastic shipping bag I for some reason felt rather uneasy about doing so. And as it turns out I had every reason to as I quickly got frustrated when I examined the product packaging and noticed the the metallic housing at the end of the outer shell by the male usb A end was dented in and I quickly decided to repair the metallic end myself so I could at least be able to plug the drive into a vacant female usb 3.0 jack.Thank goodness I had success in reforming the end well enough that I was able to get the drive plugged into my computer. I had a amazon customer service chat session and after speaking with three different agents the third one deemed it necessary to provide me with a full refund of my purchase price which I thought was fair enough. When comparing my previous SanDisk 128 gb and my new Samsung 128 gb drive do you feel like there's enough of a difference? At this point I guess it really doesn't matter since essentially my new usb drive is free.
