I'm K4sum1, the developer of r3dfox. I'm probably not going to make my own portable version as it's not something I would use. There is already an unofficial portable version, but it has done suspicious stuff in the past. I would prefer if there was something safer that I can endorse without needing to worry. That's what I'm asking for here. My fork is currently the only Firefox fork to support Windows Vista & 7 that I know of. (Edit: There is Luminafox nowadays, but it uses my patches for Vista/7 anyways) Please make a portable version.

Edit: I started making my own portable releases a while back, and forgot to mention here. The second sentence aged poorly since I realized how nice having everything be portable is.
RoastedFox has better portablelity than Chromium-based browsers, but there's a hitch. It has a single release for each supported language! Too much work for the (whole website's) maintainer!
It'll get more chances if you're the maintainder of your own software.

In English and with normal browser names please.
Roasted → FiredFox & (Bloody) RedFox. Vulpini.
PS. Sorry if annoying, but I like wordplaying.

I have put no research into other languages because I don't know any other languages. I'm also not about to completely redo the language system as I want to remain as close to stock Firefox as I can.
I mostly just want this to be regular Firefox but works on Windows 7. With a few minor tweaks here and there.
As much fun as wordplay can be, it can be tough for folks where English isn't their first language. And we have a lot of folks like that here since the platform supports 83 languages.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I didn't want to be rude

Hmm... it would've been nice if it supported Windows XP/Vista without resorting to OCAPI/external kernel thingies. That way, I could simply replace roytam1's New Moon/Serpent and feodor2's Mypal68 with an up-to-date Firefox fork that is Windows-XP/Vista-friendly. Then again, beggars can't be choosers so supporting Windows 7 is already a good start.
By the way, I've seen your thread here, and I'm guessing that you're here because you need help making r3dfox portable, right? Maybe John (or somebody else) could assist you with that.
Anyway, I wish you luck!

XP/Vista support is a lot more complex, but I want to try getting Vista sometime. XP might be a lot harder since Rust9x dpesn't work with mingw and it won't be officially looked into. I'll likely need to come up with my own solution for Rust. I think backporting modern Firefox to work with VS2017 (Last VS to compile for XP) would be a lot more work than modifying the Rust compiler to produce code that works with XP and building with mingw, which still supports XP as is. There's also a lot of stuff having been added since 52 (official) or 68 (unofficial) and no clear tracking on what does what or what I would need to replace to get it working.
I mostly posted here since it would be better to have it here to get more people using the browser. I'm working on my own portable mode similar to the method for Mypal68, which I believe would be better than these portable apps. However when people think portable, here is probably the first place.
It's fully understandable that it must be a very painful process reverting many "unfair" changes/decisions made by Mozilla, and it's still a miracle that feodor2 succeeded in making the 68th version of Firefox (A.K.A. Mypal68) support XP. But sure, all in due time... there's no need to rush. Like I said, supporting Windows 7 is already a good start.
Oh, OK.
Normally, this section is a good place to request applications to be made officially portable by PortableApps.com... but not all of them can be made officially portable. Supermium was the last application being made officially portable here.
Anyway, as an aside, I admire how many people at MSFN always find ways to make many, many applications support older Windows OSes... please don't stop.

Back to looking at this. I don't need it since I have a portable release, but would still be nice to get it out there on this site.
Tuesday Sep 3rd 2024 saw the last release of Firefox for Windows 7/8.
Last (and most important for Win 7/8) release is Firefox 115.15 ESR, which is _still_ not available here on portableapps sadly.
A month from now, we will be officially out of date - so all eyes from Windows 7/8 users in the world are on you, K4sum1.
I figure I will wait until November, maybe R3dfox 132 to switch to you, exponentially more people will be looking at you one month from now brother.
It'll probably be smart to create a brand new profile with R3dfox 132 in November and extend the ride on Windows 7/8 machines.
Thank you, and hope people help you in every way.
see by outdated apps!
help were i can. maybe you can help me too. threads in account/track.
if you don't want to help don't post crap!
But Firefox 115.15 ESR has just been released three days ago, it is is current as of September 2024, though it won't be next month...
Firefox 130 Portable for Win 10/11 has not been released on PortableApps either, so I am guessing there is a delay this week?
always see there for the current state!
please see as said!
thanx!

Firefox decided they would extend 115 ESR support until march 2025 or 115.21, which is different. Maybe they realized they dropped 7 too early lol.

Anyways you should still consider using r3dfox for speed and compatibility as 115 gets older.
Ooooh
Gives you more time to prepare, you're still going to have a ton of people flocking to your builds in March.
The percentage of Firefox users on Windows 7/8 is in double digits... That is not negligible. How many will find you?
I only recently did. Your time is coming soon.
Good luck.
...because remember, Windows 10 itself reaches END OF LIFE in 2025.
Windows 7/8 machines _cannot update_ to Windows 11 because they cannot meet system requirements for Windows 11.
So what are we going to do?
*Certainly* not update to End Of Life Windows 10. Why would we?
*Certainly* not just throw away all those machines.
We are going to come to you. All of us with old machines.
So you are smart to do this. You will have support from us.
