I have read this thread several times and have enjoyed reading all the apps people have on USB. But it has now got so long - isn't it time for that thread to be closed and another "What's on your portable#2? started

Couldn't you just use an extension for FFP to switch your proxy?
Also, N isn't portable. It leaves your settings in the Application Data directory.

...as I find new software to use on my memory stick from them.
Installed on my memory stick currently are:

Those marked with a "*" were "discovered" in the PortableApps forums. Not all software listed is truly "portable" (might leave traces in the registry).

About putting CamStudio on mine, but forgot about it. How's it working for you?
----------------------------------------
I felt so different without a signature.
I've already used it to show off IE favorites on a laptop project I'm working on (links were to portable e-books in our endeavor to make strides in going from paper to electronic books in my unit in the US Air Force). I walked thru the favorites and paused for a sec for the viewer to take in what they were seeing. I posted it to our LAN and then sent a link to the audience. Saved me a ton of typing & describing as "seeing is believing"
I've also used it to shoot short videos of how to fix common problems like setting up your own Outlook profile and whatnot and then have people watch that for a walkthru.

Yep, great tool.
I used it several times and it worked great.

If you search for "cd2iso" in Google, the first one listed isn't actually the one I use. Here's a link to the smaller/better software (IMHO) named "cd2iso" (single exe only 33kb ! No, I don't know what the difference between the two versions in the zip file are...both work the same for me.)

... to that comment about finding new software to use from these threads, I have a thought:
I too have on occasion found such info from these threads, but not often, mainly cuz folks simply LIST their wares, rather than give us links or tell us about said apps. There ought to be something like the following:
How about a thread on "Request Apps" board wherein folks RECOMMEND specific software they've found on the web, including links to same?... Of course, I'm presuming that folks would mainly post about apps NOT found at this site, since linking to here would be redundant, not to mention repetitive.
I'll be interested to see what folks think of the idea, and if there's sufficient interest, I'll start such a thread...
"I don't hate cats...as long as they stay on the freeway, where they belong."

...but all the non-PortableApps I listed can be found with a quick Google search and if they can't, I expounded on the cryptic/redundant program name to help you find it.

I also think so.

I'd like to thank you. I had been wonderin if there was an app to rename all the stupid things people name the torrents you download, and Flexible Renamer is amazing. You have made my life so much handier (just so you know I was hand renaming every track in a 7 cd discography before I found this)

Incidentally - I'm finding that a whole pile of apps can be made portable by simply copying the installed files from your PC HD into the iPod or other removable medium... (i.e.: Filemaker Pro)

"Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning." - Rick Cook
but in a general sense you can define anything as portable that you are able to take with you and run on another machine without installing it there.
Some registry entries here and there don't bother me at all, besides - once your done, just run ccleaner and eliminate the tracks, if that's what the concern is.
I'm looking for useful and functional applications that I can run anywhere - I'm not concerned with tracks or the sneaky factor.
It's not only the sneaky factor. Imagine that a host computer has your app already installed and configured in a way that you don't like........

What's on my portable?
First I use my cell phones 2Gb micro SD Card with a 512Mb encrypted
file created by True crypt. My cell phone has a USB plug to connect
to my PC.
I have the following portable apps
Fox Fire
Thunder bird
KeePass w. on screen keyboard
File Zilla
Abi word
FS Viewer
VLC Media player
7Zip
Foxit reader
SDelete
Aviras' undelete
Audacity
Not in the encrypted file I have:
TrueCrypt
On-ScreenKeyboardPortable
And some scripts for taking log ins and pass words and IE History and
recent documents. You know, "Hey may I download whatever off your
computer?" Then I run the script authored with AutoIt2.
Of course my cellphone is a MP3 player so I see no need to include VLC
Media player. I'll get a 4Gb micro SD card in the near future.

Quick google search gives nothing that compiles batches to PE32 executables (I mean: really compiles, not only wrapps ) and doesn't require .NET.

But the code it produces is compatible neither with gcc nor with msvc. I have to check dmc. It's been designed to work with turbo c.

KVIrc (my favourite IRC client)
HydraIRC (a really fast IRC client, good for slow PCs)
Editting:
PSPad (my favourite text editor)
Notepad++ (not quite as good as PSPad, but has a few unique features)
File Sharing:
µTorrent (don't use it much, but handy for those files that you can only download in torrent form)
Extracting:
Universal Extractor (good for extracting the installers that 7zip can't)
CD/DVD:
Active@ ISO Burner (burns disk images)
ImgBurn (also burns disk images)
DP CD DVD Burner (burns DVDs and CDs, has lots of plugins you can download from the site)
Some programs I made portable with JauntePE:
Teamspeak
OpenedFilesView
SysExplorer
HelpNDoc
Please note:
Before anyone asks, some of the programs here require an ini file change, or an option change, to make them portable.

Onscreen Keyboard doesn't prevent you from being keylogged...

Hi
Simeon
All though you are correct that the one screen keyboard would not stop your keystrokes being collected via a software program the one screen keyboard would stop the hardware versions that are built into keyboards or attach to the ps2 or usb slot before the keyboard is plugged in.
These would record the mouse movements (on some of the really high end ones) but without the on screen keyboard and the exact location it was placed at it would be difficult to see what you were doing.
What do you think?
Cheers
Merlin

I've been using it for about 2 months I suppose- and went up from my 512 lexar drive (all of which are still serving) to a 2GB SanDisk Cruzer Micro- found on sale at staples.
Right now I have:
Audacity
ClaimWin
Gimp (Mostly for making icons)
Icon Sushi- does somebody have the portable version address?
Keepass- a life saver from my 6 email accounts
Mozzilla FireFox
Nvu
The Open Office Suite
Linerider- not the portable, again, where can I get it?
Sudoku
Sumatra PDF reader
and Ultima Screenshot Utility- not portable, but its the only one I've found
*EDIT* I just found the portable version of camstudio so now its on too.
I want to put more apps, but I have no clue how to keep it from showing the uninstall program and getting it to give the proper labels.

Thanks- I was messing around with the Ultima and found the printscreen function didn't work right if portable. I'll try this out and thanks!
*EDIT* Becuase I can't edit the previous list I've also added
a screen caliper for measuring pixels so I can make icons easier (a hobby I haven't yet started)
7zip portable- I only have so I can extract .7z- maybe start using it more in the future
and I switched to FS capture- well spoken, it totally rocks!

At last I decided to write something about my "pendrive" (actually it's a 20 GB MP3 player, but I call it pendrive).
I won't write everything, there's too much stuff.
In general I have only 1 App. Total Commander with 73 plugins. But there are some tasks TC can't manage (or is not the most efficient tool for doing this), so I connected to it several external tools. The most important (and not strictly related with TC) are:

I will soon be experimenting with "SmithTech Portable Menu 1.0.0.11", and "OmniMix_1.3.2".
Also I will be experimenting with the incognito LiveCD. "incognito" is a Gentoo-based (Linux) Tor LiveCD. The CD provides software to use various Internet technologies while keeping the user anonymous. It is based primarily on Tor while including supporting applications. The target use case is that of using a public computer, such as in a library, securely. This CD mayalso be copied to a USB drive to provide persisted user settings. The intended user base are those who would like to perform standard Internet communications such as WWW, mail, IRC, IM, etc, while being confident that their anonymity is not compromised.

I'm using a 4 GB pendrive with a 695 MB (easy to write to a CD) TrueCrypt volume on it, contains my applications and some important and sensitive data. The rest of the space is used for music, movies, whatever.
Here's my application list:
7Zip Portable
Aida32 - to generate system information reports
Atomic - Atomic Clock Sync
AudioGrabber - with lame encoder
binaries - mostly GNU win32 utilities, like bc, cat, gawk etc.
CCleaner
CDRecovery - recover lost data from old CDs
Clamwin
CyberShredder - to securely delete files
DeepBurner - CD/DVD writer
DSynchronize - to sync folders/files
EigenMath - sophisticated math software
Foxit - Foxit PDF Reader, small and lighting-fast

IrfanView
JKDefrag - to defragment my volumes
KeePass
LinuxReader - to access ext2 partitions
lynx - text-only browser
miranda - Miranda IM
mp3tag
notepad++
opera - Opera Portable, smaller and easier-to-use than FireFox (IMHO)
pstart - for launching programs instead of PortableApps launcher
skype - Skype client with portable launcher
totalcmd - Total Commander
turboc - an old C++ compiler for quick and dirty stuff
undelete - Undelete Plus, to recover deleted files
uniextract - Universal Extractor to unpack installation packages, for example
utorrent - torrent client
vlc - VLC Media Player portable
winamp - _the_ MP3 player with many useful plugins
winscp
Approximately ~105 MB the whole package size. One of the largest is Skype, only the executable is 13MB in size, after UPX process. Yep, most of the applications compressed with UPX.
780 MB is programs, 220 MB is doc/pic 482MB free
still need to add skype and thinking of removing OOffice(too big)
4 bigest files= 402.7MB

I'm also trying to get Aqua Data Studio to work on my driver, since I've seen some posts that list it. However, I'm running into an issue. The cfg file IS in the working folder. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. (Yes, it runs fine if I manually run the datastudio.exe file from Windows Explorer.)
