Well

We had an old version of PhotoShop (7) but we had to pull it because of naming and trademark issues.
I think Deuce was the developer.

You might be able to just

You might be able to just copy the installed directory i.e. program files/adobe/photshop or whatever onto your drive... It won't be truely portable, but it might well run fine, even if it leaves traces on host PC. This works for a few apps that I have tried...

This doesn't work....

For one reason, the registration info is located in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and this registry key is locked if you are not an admin, SO if you go on pc where you do not have admin rights, it will not work. Even if you export the registry keya nd try to import it will not work if you are not an admin. Adobe uses the registry extensively just as microsoft does. THere is not much you cna do.

There are several portable

There are several portable versions online as you can see when you check some torrent search, for instance. But can't tell, whether the issue as mentioned by Deuce applies to those as well.

IT applies to all....

This is just the way Adobe codes there applications to sto0re its registration data. All of their apps store the data in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key, which you need admin rights to change.

Also, I have downloaded and checked out most of those portable versions on the torrent sites, and they are usualy just a slightly changed version of my portable PS 7.0 launcher with the program added. 2 things makes this illeagal:

1. They are distributing the Adobe photoshop application illegaly, which could get you into alot of trouble.
2. They are using the photoshop name, which is violating adobe trademarks.

Also the cs versions of the portables doesn't really make it completely portable, because cs and cs2 use the registry exstensively throguth the default keys to stores settings, pretty much as bad as MS office or any other MS app. Just have the launcher record and rewrite the registration info does not make the program portable, there are about 100 other entries in the registry that are getting left behind and also there are folders created in the application data folder of your profile. This happens in 7.0 (The one I worked on) as well, just mostly they were file extenstions and such.

I only mention this becuase if you are using this on a machine you are not suppose to be using it on and someone wants to check the registry to see what you are doing there will be much eveidence against you in the registry. Just a thought.

Thanks for the info

Thanks for the detailed info, Deuce. I had my doubts too about the true portability of that program. There are actually quite a few more quite famous programs to be had over torrent that seem to work without installation and which they distribute as "portable", and I think those, too, wont work without making heavy use of the registry and writing files into the system, given the nature of some of the programs. Just don't want to mention their names here. Wink

I would be interested in

I would be interested in looking at how you did it for 7.0 and see if I could adapt for my version of 6.0. I can't seem to find it anywhere, all of the links appear broken. Can you send to me as well?

Regards,
Paul

GimpShop?

What about a GimpShop portable? it is freeware, and is the Gimp in Photoshop fashion...

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report Biggrin

I see

I see something very wrong about your post GIMPShop is not freeware as The GIMP is open-source therefore GimpShop has to be released under the same license therefore making it open-source and not freeware

GIMPShop Dead

GIMPShop appears to be a dead project as it hasn't been updated in nearly a year. It's still based on GIMP 2.2.8 whereas GIMP is at 2.2.13. And the 2.2.8 Fix 1 release of GIMPShop is very unstable. It crashes almost immediately on all my test boxes. Scott, the author, had posted a note in the forums here in October 2006 saying that he was working on updating to 2.2.13, but it looks like he got busy with other things.

I Looked At This

I looked at this but also saw that it didn't appear to have been updated in over a year, and posts I've seen elsewhere seem to be in line with John's statement that the latest vesion was unstable. Does anybody have a copy or know where I can get a copy of Duece's PS 7.0 NSI source so I can see if I can make with my 6.0?
