FireFox Portable Suggestion

I would like to suggest the option be added to the ini file to make Firefox Portable the default browser.
Its only about 12 registry entries.
I realize its an advanced option but really only advanced users are gonna be messing with the ini file anyway.
Also there seems to be some interest in running the portable version from the local hard drive as their main browser.
I run the portable version but haven't gotten around to editing the registry to make it the default.

I agree

For some reason running Firefox Portable on my machine from the hard drive replaces my "normally installed" Firefox as the default browser.

I'm fairly certain that will

I'm fairly certain that will not work properly as it would set firefox.exe as the default, not firefoxportable.exe which would not load the portable profile.

Nope

I can pretty much guarantee this will not be added to the FirefoxPortable.exe launcher. That's not the point of the portable app and it introduces too many possible issues. It will only ever exist in a sep utility.

Sweet, now I don't have to

Sweet, now I don't have to do the digging/rooting through the registry I've been putting off.

I don't...

Wanna start a new post, but this is related to Firefox. When you download with Firefox, by defualt, files are download to the desktop, I'm not sure where in the PE, but I was thinking. With the next (beta) release of PAM, is it possible, perhaps under the documents folder, to have another folder called downloads. It would be like the rest that we can change the icons for. And it would be handy to have everything automatically download to there instead of having files fill up the first section of your drive when you travel. You can Obviously make a folder yourself, I was just thinking maybe having an offical customizable one in there would be nice. And people can simply delete it if they don't want it. Agree?

Nope

As the file downloads to a flash drive, it slows down all the apps and everything you're trying to do from it. Best to download it somewhere else... local desktop for instance... and then move it over. It would work from a portable hard drive. But most people use a flash drive.

Master Password - Suggestion Options

This is more a general suggestion for Firefox in general. Most people know where Firefox stores it's passwords and that there is an option to protect them with a master password so not just anybody can see them. While this is a great feature to have your passwords protected like this (and I don't know whether it actually uses encryption or not, which would be nice), but there is one little annoyance to it. It's somewhat bothersome that it asks for the master password (in my experience) every time I revisit a site for which a password is stored. I might as well just remember my other password.

Anyway, my point is that it would be great if there was an option within the Master Password setup to disable that. Perhaps you could have sort of a user profile for Firefox that you signed into once when you first opened it up, and from that point all your passwords would be available. Again, there could be a timeout setting so it would log you off if you sat too long, but would still retain the current websites that you were browsing at the time.

So that's my rant... sorry if it came off like a gripe. I'd fix it myself, but I'm not an experience enough coder. That being said... You guys at portableapps ROCK because you give us some wonderful alternatives to all the other crappy proprietary software out there.

Oh.. one other thing. I saw a download for "Mac-on-a-stick"... I was just thinking that "Linux-on-a-stick" would be pretty sweet too... but their may be some logistical issues around that. Cheers.

Good poist

and nice idea but I think the MasterPassword is only really worth it if you have 8 or more passwords to remember.

Password Safe GOOOOOOD!!

No no.. I disagree. I have a great memory and can easily remember my some 15 or more passwords. However, for an on-the-college-student like me. It becomes a painstaking task to type them all in everytime I need to log into my various student, banking, email, and other personal accounts. It's really handy and saves me a bit of time to have them stored in my Firefox, and thus it's nice to type my master password (highly secure) once at the beginning of each session, rather than throughout. Thanks.

Both

I use both FFP and KeePass for passwords.

I use FF with a MasterPassword for the ones that aren't really that $ or security dependent, like PortableApps.com for example.

I use KeePass Portable for more sensitive ones or sites that require IE.

it doesn't ask me

In my case I'm never asked for the master password more than twice:
- once when I first start FFP
- once if I want to view the stored passwords in FFP

I'm not sure why you're getting prompted every time.
