This is mainly a bug fix release over Prerelease 1, so here's what you need to know.
- The way the mirror works was completely overhauled, should be faster and more efficient.
- The exclusions have been changed slightly, you need to put the leading dot in before file extensions
- You cannot add a blank exclusion, keeps it nice and tidy!
- Updated the manual
- I think that there was something else but I can't remeber at the moment
The files are hosted by Ryan and are here.
*Edit*These are new links as of 16:30 21-05-07 to fix a small bug in the backup section.
Enjoy!
Note: I am not sure how well some of the new changes will work, so please test!
Prerelease 3
- Should fix the portable variables
- Should fix some translation issues
Prerelease 4
- New progress boxes
Thanks.
Oh, P.S., Steve, how do I make a compiled HTML help file?

Hi again,
When doing backup, I can't exclude .pdf files.
An extract from jobs.ini:
Exclusions=|strony|.pdf|
edit: Works without dot though

yep, looks like I forgot to update that part of the code, I'll reupload shortly.

Great job, Steve
I think I just found some bugs... concerning portable variables...
When trying to backup my Firefox profile using portable variables, for example, to:
Firefox Profile @date@ - @time@.zip
the resulting backup file is named like this:
Firefox Profile 2007-05- - 14-.zip
And, additionally, when trying to create my own portable variable, for example, "profile" which refers to:
C:\Documents and Settings\Guest\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
the following entry is created in Variables.ini (I think):
C:\\Documents and Settings\\Guest\\Application Data\\Mozilla\\Firefox\\Profiles\\
Notice the double backslashes! Is this normal behavior?
Because of those double backslashes, when I try to edit my "profile" variable (and just click OK), the number of backslashes will double... which is quite annoying!
Keep up the good work!!
Just one another note: I just saw now that you uploaded a new version with some bugfixes, and I haven't tested it yet... So, if you already fixed these, my bad
so with the date and time variables you are saying they they are now returning the correct values? I just tried that myself and I can reproduce it, I'll look into that right away. As for the double backslashes, I am afraid that they will have to stay for the moment as they allow me to do my Linux compatibility more easily.

OK then...
I assume that you meant incorrect values above, right? Because the values display without last 2 characters (see my previous post)...
I've been fooling around with those settings, and when you try to backup to:
Firefox Profile @date@ @ @time@.zip
the resulting backup file is named like this:
Firefox Profile 2007-05 18-.zip
That means that unpaired "@" char "ate" the last char of the @date@ string...
That's just my observation... Hope this helps...
Looking forward seeing you fix this...
Keep up the good work...
thats exactly what I meant, I think I have the issue tracked down but I need a little bit more time to fix it cleanly.

I've been fooling a little more, following setting:
Firefox Profile @date@\@\@ @time@\@\@.zip
gives the correct (aka wanted) resulting backup file:
Firefox Profile 2007-05-24 23-54.zip
I hope this will get you more on track...
One more thing, I'm having problems downloading from mediafire.com server. Can someone upload Toucan binaries somewhere else... Thanks in advance!
EDIT: I can download DE and FR localized versions, but I can't download both english versions (paf.exe and zip version)... Can anyone confirm this?
I can't download them either.

Sorry I don't know if it is a feature request or a bug, but it is not possible to exclude single Files...
OK guys I seems to have messed up a bit, as some of you may have noticed in Prerelease 3 there is a whole new progress dialog for Sync, I hadn't meant to include it before 1.1 but I guess as its there I better leave it. The save button doesn't work at the moment and neither does the progress bar, but I'll try and get a new version up as soon as possible that fixes that and expands it to all of the functions (e.g. Backup and Secure).

1. I'm guessing this is in Sync then, you could at least say what you are doing, any chance of what the error means in English?
2. I'm already looking into this, it shouldn't be too hard to fix, he says hopefully.

It IS the Sync part and the error is "access denied".

Steve,
Been testing Prerelease 4 and Simeon beat me to reporting the problem with files that have their Read-only attribute flag set. I'll let you and he sort it out :-)(although happy to help if necessary)
I would be grateful if you would explain exactly what the "Sync->Other->retain attribute" check box does. The help says "The retain attributes checkbox allows you to keep the files timestamps intact through the sync operation" I don't see any difference in file timestamps between having this unchecked and checked.
I like the new progress display but would it be possible to add an abort button? There are times when one sets a transfer in motion and then realises one has screwed up and files are being sent to the wrong place.
Of course one wouldn't need that if you implemented the preview option, so much nicer to see what the program is going to do before it does it!
BTW where are you based in the UK?
Cheers,
Roger (Horsham, West Sussex)
it is the read-only flag??
Cause I am not.
And I second the abort button.
It is annoying to have it freeze and you cant do anything...

new dialog freeze, the do not stop working in the background, they still copy its just that they do not update the screen, I'm looking into that. As for the file copying issue were files being overwritten?

See my reply to Steve today re: read-only flag.
The reason I want an abort button isn't for the freeze situation but for when I've screwed up and files are being transfered to the 'wrong' place.
it should make sure that the timestamps on the copied files are the same as the originals, fir example if you copy a file without retain attributes on the the creation date will be the time it was copied, if retain attributes is on then it will be the time that the original file was created.
I'll put a preview window in the next release.

without retain attributes on the the creation date will be the time it was copied, if retain attributes is on then it will be the time that the original file was created.
So "Retain Attributes" actually means "Retain File Creation TimeStamps", right?
If so, wouldn't it be better to be more explicit on the Synch screen? File Attributes usually means the set of flags for read-only, hidden, archive, compressed and encrypted so using this term is confusing.
Self-explanatory stuff doesn't need an entry in the help file
BTW. Checking "Retain Atributes" doesn't work for files that have their read-only attribute flag set when doing a Sync>Copy to an empty destination. The file gets copied OK but a Toucan Error Dialogue box displays with the error message:
"Failed to modify file times for 'file' (error 5: access is denied)" AND
if you press the Details button there is an additional message:
"Failed to open 'file' (error 5: access is denied)"

Toucan Industries.Inc
Toucan Capital Group

Thanks for the recognition but I really could not help him translate it. But I will be giving him input on a few things.

Your suggestions were valuable!
And besides, I'm sure with the translation of the help file you'll prove to be of much help.
I'd love to help. Is there a specific file that needs to be translated or do we just start typing away in OOoP?

should be coming shortly, I spend a lot of time yesterday trying (unsuccessfully) to multi-thread Toucan, only to find that by adding one extra line to the source I could keep the existing code and still keep the GUI responsive, argh. The preview pane is almost done and all of the progress boxes are no nicely responsive. I have also made sure that all file attributes are copied and there have been a couple of other GUI changes. I might also have fixed that annoying file attribute bug.

Steve,
Did you miss my message to you posted yesterday at 4:43pm with subject "without retain attributes on"?
Roger
by checking the box it will now also copy the read-only, hidden, archive, compressed, whatever flags along with the file modification times. If it sees that a file is read only then it wont try to set them as this causes the error.

I doesn't make sense that the read-only flag, which is just meant to protect the contents of the file, causes these problems. I guess it's a limitiation of the MS sytem calls you have to use?
Perhaps you could temporarily clear the read-only flag, then set it again after you've done copying all the other attributes?
Roger.
I'll do that
