AppLauncher is now Portable Startup Utility.
I rearranged the settings dialog and added a additional functions.
Setup:
Download PSU to your portable drive.
Modify your autorun.inf to run psu.exe -all
Usage:
psu.exe will open the settings window
psu.exe -all will apply all saved settings
psu.exe -clean will cleanup portable settings applied to host PC
(environment variable, drive substitution, and run configured cleanup apps)

Looks nice, but tell me: Does this substitute the drive letter or clone the drive with a new name?

I believe technically it would be considered a pointer, not substitution or cloning, but Microsoft calls it substituting. (subst.exe)
If it were cloning the drive it would be creating a copy of the drive which it doesn't do. A clone would mean it would have to write updates to both to keep them in sync.
A "true" substitution would replace the original drive letter, which it doesn't do.
So really its just a pointer at the substituted drive letter to the original drive letter.

curious, why would you want to clone the drive? Seems to me that would take a significant amount of time at startup.

I think it might have just been a shortcut or something.. I don't know.. There's two drives in My Computer when you do it, so I just called it cloning. >_>
But this is another program so meh.

Could you name the .exe to PSU with the version in the file name? I keep forgetting what version I have and then having to download it again to be sure. >_>
Is this supposed to work on u3 drives as well?
the problem I get is that I can get psu.exe to run from the autorun.inf without the -all switch (this just opens psu.exe). With the -all switch nothing seems to happen.
I've tried both this version and the 1.5.b version.
Cuz I struggled to get it to work, what I have had to do is use the applauncher on my u3 cd drive partition and then use that to autolaunch psu.exe. This is a bit untidy and I would like to use psu.exe on my cd partition.
Are you doing any updates smithtech?

The portable startup utility wasn't made to work on U3 drives.
Unfortunately there were issue's with it on U3 drives I never resolved so it isn't released for U3 drives, which is why there isn't any link or instructions for U3 on it's webpage.
U3 is already a dying platform so I haven't been developing for it in a while.
Microsoft has partnered with U3 to bring out some new replacement for U3.

no further development is being done on the utility.
I scratched it in favor of the menu I've been working on.
It has almost all of the functionality of the utility, plus a menu.
