Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

hi,
i do use putty for a long time from all windows machines to all *nix systems. it did always good work. i'm always failed to see the point in having a one-single-file program store its configuration in the windows registry and not in an ini-file, which would make this application really portable, because of copying two small files (putty.exe+ i.e. putty.ini) would be very simple and fast for everyone.

now, i found putty portable, i'm really disappointed, because what is it good for?

the one-single-file principle is gone, the are not a lot of folders and two programs the user/windows has to start. windows-registry is still used, which makes it hard on machines with restrictions to use it.
so no advantage cognizable.
i really do not understand, although i'm very glad that putty exists and will use it, since the day the internet dies.

cheers, pocke

hi,
I manage to find out that you can export the old registry settings and use them portable.
Just export the old registry tree [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SimonTatham\PuTTY] inside PuTTYPortable\Data\settings\putty.reg and the program will do the rest.

On another note, I don't like the directory tree stuff either but I think it's a small price to pay, to be really portable.

What you need is portaputty. Acording to his author

"portaPuTTY is a hacked version of PuTTY that stores all its information in files, not in the registry."

I've been using it and the only thing I need to copy/sync is the .putty/ folder and putty.exe
