Due to popular demand and the ridiculous size of this topic, I've made a new topic for R11 located here.
PortableApps Menu Mod r10
File is in RAR format, use 7-Zip, WinRAR or another RAR-compatable archive extractor to extract it. To install, just drop the folder into your PortableApps folder and follow the instructions in 'readme_mod.txt' to install any locale or theme files.
This is a learning experience for me, so please post any bugs, no matter how insignificant. I'm also open to implement new features if they're reasonable.

Fixed. I made a really stupid programming boo-boo :P. I'm uploading the patch now ;).
EDIT: R4 is uploaded.
error when loading theme. it seems as though the Data folder has to be in the root of the USB drive. can you make it so it's in \PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\ instead. like all the other ver of PAM. also, the .pafdata files that are created if you enable autorun, can you make is so they delete themselves if they the answer to autoexec is "false". so that there won't be these .pafdata files lying everywhere even though they're not needed.

Pafdata files are now deleted if they aren't needed, thanks for the suggestion :).
As for your problem with the Data folder, I'm having trouble reproducing it. How are you launching it, and what version of Windows are you running? Any other information would be helpful :).
It doesn't show all apps I have (only till Mozilla Firefox, thats 23 programs).
And is there a way to make the buttons of the "install a new App"-menu translatable?

The nasty bug with hiding apps is fixed now, so only programs you tell to hide will be hidden. The buttons of the 'Install a new App' dialog are now translatable too, thanks for noticing :).

I had to put it into 7zip format becasue my hosting server doesn't allow me to upload .rar files :(.
I thought that shouldn't be a problem for us with 7zip portable and all.

But
I have some improvements for R6:
Kevin had a problem here and I am having the same with r5. It says: Cannot open File: "H:\Data\Theme\Linspire\Theme\background.jpg".The systen cannot find the path specified". I think I know the solution.
The Menu is looking for background.jpg in
[myusb:\Data\Theme\Mythemename\Theme]
instead of
[myusb:\PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\Data\Theme\Mythemename\Theme].
If you could fix that I think it would be cool as it would allow theming.
If I copy
[myusb:\PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\Data]
to
[myusb:\].
then it works.
But it still prompts me with an error because it wants a separate set of icons for each theme. I think a solution for this would be to look whether there is a custom set of icons for the theme and if not just use the defaults.
Hope this is not too confusing.
EDIT
I have been playing around a little and if a theme has no icons and I restart the menu, it either prompts me the theme would be corrupt and it uses the defaults or it starts totally screwed and I have to reinstall the menu.

Where does it store the info about which exe has been renamed???

R6 now uses the default iconset if the chosen theme doesn't supply it's own, so that problem should be rectified. As for the file that contains the exe name, it's 'filename.pafdata' in that program's directory (EG ExampleApp.exe's name data would be in 'PortableApps\ExampleApp\ExampleApp.pafdata').
Instead of reinstalling the menu, just deleting the INI file while the menu is closed should reset everything to the defaults.
As for Kevin and your theming problems, I have a vague suspicion of the cause. And by that I mean almost no idea at all :P. However, I've changed the theme loader code slightly, and that should hopefully fix the problem.
PS. If that doesn't work, it'd be helpful to know where you are installing the menu, where your apps are stored, what version of windows you're running and if possible can you check on another computer to see if the problem occurs there too. Any other information would be helpful as well :).

It's kinda scary when my desktop is messier than my room...
R6 works great, you fixed that other problem that i had. though there's still some more problems with the skinning process. i hav a skin called "mcmz´s ZarthWork RED -Remake-" but when ever i choose it, this pops up "The theme you last selected,'cmz´s ZarthWork RED -Remake-', is not installed correctly, has been deleted or is corrupted. You are now being automatically reverted to the default theme. You see how the skin's name is "mcmz´s ZarthWork RED -Remake-" but it displays in the message as "cmz´s ZarthWork RED -Remake-". which is missing a letter "m" in front of the skin. i think that's the reason that theme isn't working. PAM is not reading the skins' name properly and writing it in correctly into the .ini file as well.
i'm using windows vista home premium btw and i store the PAM in "H:\PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu" and i use the launcher which is located in the root of the USB to launch PAM. i store all my portableapps in "H:\PortableApps\"
though i'v got to say, this is the best version of PAM i'v seen so far. great job

That's an odd bug, it happened on mine once with the same theme but I couldn't get it to happen again. I've got no clue what causes it, try renaming and see if that helps.

I think I have found a bug with the theme chooser. For example, I have two themes, Default and Dark. In the theme chooser menu, it shows Default and Dark to allow changing of skins with the keyboard. Whenever I choose Dark, close the program, then look at the .ini config it shows:
[SETTINGS]LargeFonts=False
StayVisible=False
Theme=&rk
Locale=english-us
I don't know if this is just my flash drive, but I have tested it on both Windows 2000 and Windows XP Media Center.

(EDIT: Oh, this also leads to it defaulting back to the default skin because of it not being about to find the &rk skin.)

Another confusing bug. I've modified the theme code again, which uses a different method to get the theme name. Hopefully that'll fix both yours and Kevin's theme problems :).
EDIT: I spoke too fast, it works with R7 :).

it would be great if you could do this, then we'd be able to have a more customizable PAM. the location of these things could be defined using a settings file located in the theme's folder or somthing

EDIT: In other words, stick a batch file called 'execonclose.bat' with everything you want to do in it. I chose this method because it minimizes drive access, which makes shutdown much, much faster.
When switching themes the diameter around the PortableApps.com logo is choppy.
This bug does not occur in r7.

Can you elaborate on this further? Which themes cause this, does it happen when you start up, what exactly do you mean by diameter (as PAM as two ways of displaying the logo, it's hard to tell what does what), et cetera. Try R9, I changed the theme engine a bit more so it'd hopefully prevent problems like this :P.

Interesting error, it's caused by me allowing visibility for both logo-types, and then not checking to make sure it didn't mess with anything important :P. It should be fixed in R10

there's a little bug, when u first launch PAM, is goes into the side of the screen and task bar abit, you hav to hide it then unhide it again to make it come out.

I *think* that was a silly mistake on my behalf and that I've fixed it in R10, but I'm not sure why it'd fix itself when you hid the menu....
You forgot to add the RGB color settings for Pictures, Video and Search.

You are doing a lot of updating two since yesterday Afternoon? Very efficient. And the PAM mod is VERY good also.
Also a feature Suggestion: You could be able to add custom folders in addition the the Document, pics, music, and movies folders and be able to customize the paths to all the folders.

Make a batch (.bat) file with the command in it.
EDIT:
For example, I have in my config
ExecOnclose=Autoclose.bat
In the root of my USB drive I have Autoclose.bat with all the things I want it to do.
I created a VB6 version of PAM HERE but VB6 has so many limitations and dependencies on windows files.
So I decided to start duplicating the features in delphi starting with the PAM MOD.
Anyway, it doesn't make much sense to duplicate work already done.
I was wondering if netdroid would be interested in adding the feature from my VB6 version and or working together on the mod?
EDIT: so far I added the drivespacebar.stretch to the ini, removed the drivespacebar.width (fixes issue when changing themes, bar is set to full width), and started on the advanced options form.

I'm more than happy to co-operate with other coders :). As for the VB6 version, I'm afraid I can't get it to work, although from what I've heard it's got some pretty nifty features.
Did you try re-installing the vb6 common controls?
I really only wrote it for fun, proof of concept sorta thing. vb6 has to many dependencies on windows files. But if you could get it running you could see what I'd like to see in PAM.

The icons when switching themes.
For example when switching from Theme A to Theme B Theme B's icon theme is brought into effect.
When I switch themes the icon theme changed does not take effect until PAM is restarted.

It looks possible, I'll give it a go (but no guarantees).
Argh, it's a lot harder than it looked :P. I'm releasing R11 without it, but I'll try again later.
I uploaded what I started on so far, basically I just added the options form to your R10.
I also included the menu.ini from my vb version as an example.
Source the executable is also in the zip if anyone want to play with it.
EDIT: Added the start minimized, and stay visible, they now save to the ini file.
Added folder options to the options form.

Personally, I'd prefer to use the existing menu system rather than switch to a dedicated form at the moment, although it's more a matter of preference than anything.
I haven't said anything, but I've been using this, and it's awesome. The new rename buttons and change button path are what many people have been looking for.
