Probably a good thing that it doesn't, though.
(You can always just link to the picture with "a href" tags, that should be good enough)

I was wondering about that too.
Is it to display an image in the forum?
If so, it would probably because it would look awful and create much clutter.

It would take away from the overall look of the forums and site and the pages would be way too cluttered.
Oh, and the period button is the one on the right of the comma key

I can understand turning them off for comments and replies.
But the "Main" entry should be allowed images.

You can link to em. You can't embed them.
Image tags are usually abused. One more thing to police. And most folks post links to images on temporary storage space. So, when you look at a post 3 months late, it just has broken images in it. Links are fine for the rare occasion you want to include an image in a forum post.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
So long as the thread is active the image on the temporary site is active and thus not deleted. For it to be deleted indicates the thread hasn't been viewed in a long time and thus the broken image concern is negligible.

Some hosting services I've used (might be defunct now) deleted the file after 3 months, regardless. And there's always the chance of a complete wipe of all files or a corrupt hard-drive on their side, so it's too unreliable.
Anyway, the point is images aren't allowed nor will be.
