As all of ya should know Microsoft is the Evil Empire, and Windows (a.k.a. Winblows or Windoze) is their greatest general, so please make a difference and install Linux or Free BSD on yer Windows comp.
evil empire?
i don't know if this is the right place for this but why is microsoft an evil empire?
windows isn't perfect but it works.
i've installed ubuntu on an old machine and it's nice, but still cryptic.
do these portable apps even run on ubuntu?
Yep
They run on Ubuntu if you have wine installed.
Just see here for details.

At risk of going OT: The problem with Microsoft is not that Windows works (although it could be a lot better) but the fact that it doesn't work with anything else. It makes it extremely difficult for those of us who prefer an OS like Linux to use it. Compatability is something where both sides have to meet in the middle however whereas the Open Source world bends over backwards to be compatible (eg. Samba) Microsoft deliberately makes their stuff as incompatible as possible to create a 'vendor lock-in' situation. Even their recent Office Open XML 'standard' is reportedly riddled with references to unspecified behaviour in their own Office software, making it very difficult for anyone else to write software that makes compatible documents.
Back on topic: Thanks for doing this, Notepad++ is a great program and the ability to load a decent text editor onto customer's workstations (without having to 'install' anything) is a real lifesaver in my job.
Oh...
So SciTE lost. Anyway, thanks for this.
local server
can i preview the files i'm working on right from the program?
i have WAMP installed on my machine and if i save the file in my WAMP folder and then open it then i can preview the file but if i hit the preview button on the portable app it doesn't work.
Would...
...this not qualify under Office too? Or is that where SciTE will go when you release it? (If you do)

Nah
It's much more development than office. For text, office folks use a word processor.
Yea.
That's why I was thinking more SciTE, it's much less in the line of developement, still is, but much less. Will it be coming too? Or not sure yet?

Don't give up
I'm sure if you give asking every time you post something he'll give you a reply.

great!
The closest thing I've seen to a portable NEdit on windows, thanks!
Portable Scite exists...
I'm currently using portable Scite, what is the main differences between Portable Scite and Portable NotePad+?
.
Hmm, must try this out. Of course, it's already portable, but that's besides the point.

Yes and No
It's portable, but it leaves a registry key behind and moving around between PCs breaks the MRU files list and the Explorer plugin remembering it's last open path. The launcher handles all 3 of those things for you. I don't really mention all the technical details in the posts anymore as we're having more and more non-techie users. Maybe I should still touch on them.
Yes
as there are some who are interested in "techie-stuff".

more descriptions
I like more dscriptions, even though I am somewhat non-techie, at least when it comes to software. More info is good, maybe at the end of the page or on a link description.
"... respect, all good works are not done by only good folk. For here, at the end of all things, we shall do what needs to be done."
Well,
Other than the registry key, which I forgot about, I don't use the Explorer plugin or the MRU.
Oh, and maybe mention the technical details in a comment, or at the end. Most people will read about it then click the link to the page.

Details appreciated
Maybe I should still touch on them.
Please do -- especially for apps that are generally considered portable already. I normally use the standard version of applications so that I can more easily keep things up to date. The PA versions are inevitably a little delayed on releases. I like to know why I should use them instead.
And I Quote:
In the SciTE Portable topic a comment by RyanMcCue:
Any chance of a 'Portable' Notepad++. I know it's already portable, but I like having the directory structure.
Gotch ya!

Nice but....
Notepad++ is a very nice program and I have used it in the past. The major let down for me is the lack of a built in FTP client as I like to work on files whilst on the server. I may still carry this as back up but I use PSPad for all my work and even carry it on my USB stick.
Notepad++ page in German?
When I visit the Notepad++ Portable homepage it's in German. It happened while I was logged out also.
lol, looks like somebody
lol, looks like somebody forgot the /de after portableapps.com when they were editing the page
