New Convey Portable Addons

Here are two new addons for Convey Portable. As always, place them in the Addons folder in the Convey Portable app folder and then activate them in the settings.

QuickLaunch Addon v.9.4b - download - source

A new QuickLaunch folder is added to the Convey Portable application folder. When items are added to this folder they will be placed in the Windows QuickLaunch folder and will appear in the area in the taskbar. When Convey Portable is shutdown they will be removed from the Windows QuickLaunch.

Copy & Move Addon v.6.5b - download - source
Sending items to this addon will allow you to copy or move them to a new location.
note: I have not had any files mysteriously disappear on me when using this, but please remember this is a beta.

Quicklaunch doesn't work for me

problem

Alright, so the ql addon, when copying shortcuts over, puts the wrong drive letter, C in my case, into the target field in the copied over shortcut.

As for start in field, it loses the drive letter completely.

Send to works fine, as it copies over the correct drive letter (F on my home computer, E on my work computer, and others on other computers), and loses the start in field contents altogether, as most portable apps, namely all launcher apps don;t require the start in characteristic.

Welcome back ede. Convey is still amazing, and with more addons it just keeps getting better. I am currently working on a modification of the C.A.F.E. app, a portable ahk app that sets temporary file associations to apps on the user's portable device. It is its own app, but it would be great if it could also be tied into Convey as an addon. I'll post contact info after i get it working, if you are interested. For now, just message me here in the forums.

P.S. the source for your Copy & Move addon is not available. The zip file on your site contains the exe for it.

The Copy & Move addon source is there now.

I looked at C.A.F.E. for a long time. It is a superb little program. I seriously thought about adding it to Convey. I even translated it to English and then considered adding a GUI to it so that you could add and change file associations more easily. I'm very interested in your modifications.
I'll think about creating it as a new Addon, but I have a feeling it would be a bear to get it all working properly.

Yeah, good point. Getting this to work as an add-on would be rather difficult. C.A.F.E. does have a GUI, not a very nice one, but it does have a GUI. I did all the translations, but they aren't totally accurate. I fixed the part of C.A.F.E. that was supposed to display a message for filetypes that didn't have an association yet, so that function now works, i also fixed a few other minor issues, and i have more planned. It may be easier to keep C.A.F.E. as its own app and just have Convey run it when Convey is started, and close it when Convey is closed.

Works great now, great addon!

Can you make it so that if you send a program to the command addon, it will automatically make the shortcut in quicklaunch? much like the !Conveyer option in the convey default settings. It'd make adding apps to the quicklaunch a breeze!

bug?

Something not normal with convey happened yesterday when I finish my work... I was using quick launch addon for the first time, and when I closed my PStart (that automatically closes convey), for the first time, it lets all the Apps in send to and Quick Launch, this only happens when you kill convey, but I didn't kill it, I just exit.

Is this something in the new Quick Launch Addon?

BTW, Quick Launch, convey and convey with quick launch are terrific...

Can I make a suggestion? I don't know anything about programming so this can be a very stupid question but... why shortcuts in a folder? I think it is more easy just an ini file with something like...

this is not the case, but is this the first time you've used PStart with Convey?

The QL Addon shouldn't affect the shutdown of Convey (although if it was buggy, it could leave behind its own Quick Launch shortcuts). Did restarting Convey and exiting fix the orphaned shortcuts? It is supposed to clean up after itself if there is a bad exit.

I'll try them both with PStart today and see if I can break them.

I have quite some time using PStart and convey together but it is the first time I use convey with QL addon...

When restart convey, it just add P- to every convey shortcut and add them again to all the menus (QL and ST) but don't delete the old ones... just accumulate more shortcuts... I have to open ST folder and deleted them at hand, the same with QL

hmm

it does clean up when you restart it, but it will not clean up incompatible items, ie, items it doesn't recognize as its own. with the most recent update of QL, older QL entries need to me manually removed. As for send to clean up, I've had similar problems now and then, but they never occur twice in a row for me.

A little more info on this

A little more info on this bug for you. I've reproduced it everytime I've tried it so hopefully this will narrow it down somewhat for you.

Start Convey
Go to Settings>Addons
Select CopyAddon
Configure
Make a change
Save
Apply
Ok
Rightclick on Convey; Reconvey , View Log , Settings , About are all greyed out
Quit; All Convey links remain in the Sendto folder
Restart Convey: all links left by Convey are then moved to the "Original" subfolder
and new ones are created in the Sendto folder

Another thing to note is , changing the ClipboardAddon config also causes the menu items to grey out, but does not cause the links to be left behind.

Hope this helps. Great job ede! I also have an idea for an addon, but I'll make another post for that.

Edit: Just found this.

Added only 2 links and The Conveyor and the clipboard and copy/move addons
Settings>Advanced
Prepend All with !
It moved ALL added links and subfolders to the "Original" folder with the ! added and then added them again to the Sendto folder.
It's like it didn't "know" those things had already been added, and acted like they were "original" , like it had just been run.

Idea for CAFE integration

As we said, it would most likely be easiest to just add an -enable -disable parameter to CAFE to make it a Convey Addon, which would basically keep it as a seperate app.

A suggestion would be, instead of having both apps opened (which means 2 tray icons), add an expandable section to the Convey tray menu, and in this section, put the CAFE tray menu.

Sorry if this wasnt a clear explanation, i'm a bit tired

It is possible. There are sometimes issues with putting two scripts together.

It certainly increases the development time, but it is still a good idea.

If it causes too many issues, it isn't a big deal. It was just a suggestion.I'll let you know when I feel my CAFE mod is ready for release.

Just an FYI: my CAFE will be english only because i removed all of the language selection stuff and made all strings internal, rather than having them in an ini and lng file. also, the update functionality is removed because my version of CAFE is a mod of the original. There are few other things i plan to add if i can figure out the code. i'll post a release by thursday.

Again.-

I tried just some minutes ago... load convey as always (launching PStart), close convey (right-click -> exit) and it keeps the shortcuts in Quick Launch, removed those in Send To...

Then I manually launched Convey again and all shortcuts in Quick Launch just tilted... those in Send To appeared again...

I think Quick Launch Shortcuts should disappear when I close Convey...

Am I doing something wrong or is a bug?

Bug Fixed

An error in the original code allowed the user to add the same extension multiple times through the Extensions GUI, but if the user attempted to add a different extension without closing the window and reopening it, they recieved the "Extension already managed" error message.

Cafe now displays a message when the user attempts to create an association for an extension that is already managed. and from the Extensions GUI, the user can now add multiple extensions (one at a time, but without closing the window) without receiving the error message.

P.S. I havent added a check to not try and associate recycle bin and similar objects yet.

Automatically organize QL shortcuts?

Is there a way to automatically organize the quicklaunch shortcuts in the quicklaunch bar? I would love to see FFPE show up in the "Top 3" shortcuts...

After a bit of research I found out that the HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Streams\Desktop\TaskbarWinXP key is only read at login and then written to at logoff... Otherwise, the changes are made in memory. So modifying this key wouldn't change anything from the user's perspective unless the user logs out and logs in or kills the "explorer.exe" process and restarts it via Task Manager.

Ede, I think we'll have to continue suffering by manually moving the shortcuts each time Convey is launched. I'll keep my eyes open but I think we're all out of options.

Convey Addon Idea

Here's a challenge for you ede , or maybe someone else might want to try it.

Ok, I'm gonna start this out with the simplest implementation , and then expand on it.

A "Mailto" link like the native one in Windows , only this one would be configurable to use your preferred mail client or web mail service (example: Gmail would open in FFPE with the file attached).

More Complex:

Instead of a "Mailto" link , a subfolder with Mailto links to specific addresses or groups of addresses (example: Gmail would open in FFPE with the file attached and the address(es) filled in). The first choice in the submenu should be "New Recipient" which would open a dialog where you would enter a name for the contact or group , and the address(es). The path and arguments would already be stored , and not have to be entered for a "New Recipient"

Even More Complex:

Instead of a subfolder of Mailto links, a subfolder of different email account subfolders with the Mailto links. Effectively , you could decide what account to send the mail from.

And Even More Complex

This one could probably be handled by cafe , but if the Convey addon could do it , then it would save having to configure another app. Take over the Mailto file association , and have it load the default account for the MailAddon or even better have it open a dialog to select which account to use (example: click on an email address in FFPE , it opens a dialog where you select the email account to use, then opens the app/page with the address filled in.

I'm sure it won't be easy but , anyone want to try it?

Excellent ideas, i'd love to try it, but im not all that familiar with AHK yet, just trying to teach myself, and I'm already working on the C.A.F.E. mod that's posted in the Beta forums. Adding to, and fixing that is a big project in itself.

I may give it a shot, but don't expect anything soon

Just thought of a different take on the multiple account idea.

Mailto subfolder with links, when you select the contact or group a dialog then opens to select which account to use. So there would only be a single instance of the contacts/groups instead of having overlap on the menus.

Another Bug????

Since I'm using the quick launch addon I'm having a problem with normal plain convey...

When I remove my drive, it removes every shortcut in the quick launch bar but it keeps all of the send to menu... Is that a bug?

I'm thinking that it could be another problem... I use eject script, so I think that when I exit my PStart (and call to exit convey and run ejectscript), ejectscript kills convey before it removes the shortcuts... can that be possible?

Solved!

I removed my QuickLaunch addon and the problem with the shortcuts left behind in the SendTo folder disappeared... so the problem is in the addon...
