I have some problems with the Flash 9.0 plugin for Windows, which you can get here:
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/windows.html#Flash
I can install the xpi and Flash works fine, but Firefox Portable doesn't install the plugin in /Data/plugins (even though this directory contains a text file that says "put plugins here").
Firefox Portable installs the Flash plugin on the c: drive.
Which files do I have to put in Data/plugins, the xpi or its contents?
You need to put the following two files in ...\data\plugins
NPSWF32.dll
flashplayer.xpt
also remember to start backing up your Data directory, not just your profile, otherwise you would lose this, and any other plugins (e.g. wmp) you have, if you need to do a recovery.
