Pidgin Portable 2.1.0 has been released. Pidgin Portable (formerly Gaim Portable) is the versatile Pidgin instant messaging client packaged as a portable app, so you can take your IM settings and buddy lists with you. It has all the same great features as Pidgin, including support for AOL, Yahoo, MSN, ICQ and Jabber networks, but there's nothing to install on the local PC. You can also add portable encryption plugins for secure, encrypted messaging. It's packaged in PortableApps.com Format so it can easily integrate with the PortableApps.com Suite. And it's open source and completely free.

Features
Pidgin Portable is a multi-protocol instant messaging client that works with AOL Instant Messenger, ICQ, MSN Messenger, Yahoo! and more. You can log into multiple networks all with the same program. All your IM settings and buddy lists are self-contained, so it leaves no personal information behind on the machine you run it on. Learn more about Pidgin...
Encryption: Pidgin-Encryption and Pidgin-OTR
Adding encryption to Pidgin Portable is easy with the provided PortableApps.com Installers. Portable packages of Pidgin-Ecnrypt and Pidgin-OTR are both available from the Pidgin Portable homepage. They'll automatically install to Pidgin Portable for you.
Windows 98/ME Support
A legacy GTK installer has been provided so that users of older Windows operating systems can still use Pidgin. Once installed, both the legacy 2.6.10 GTK release and the newer 2.11 GTK release will be installed on your device. The Pidgin Portable launcher will automatically select the appropriate one for the operating system you are running on.
PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format
Pidgin Portable is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It will automatically import your settings from an existing Gaim Portable installation installed to the same location (they're usually both in your PortableApps directory). And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.
New In This Release
This release updates the included Pidgin binaries to 2.1.0 fixing numerous bugs. The launcher has been updated to Pidgin's names, branding and file layouts. The ability to use a legacy GTK has been added. The installer has been updated to automatically import Gaim Portable settings. The launcher now supports using a GTK instance in the PortableApps\CommonFiles\GTK location, so you can use the same GTK with multiple portable apps.

Cool
I newer used anything like Gaim or Pidgin before but it works great with our IRC and leaves nothing behind.

Buddy Icon moved?
Hi all,
first of all, since this is my first comment ever: GREAT work doing what you do, keep it up!
second: I used pidgin beta before, which had the buddy icon in conversation on the left of the typing field. Now it is (very small) in the upper right corner of my conversation window. I was wondering if this is due to a change in pidgin itself, or is it something I can modify?
best regards,
Mark
