I shut windows down without closing the menu and I had the wallpaper swapper enabled. So after restarting Windows, the wallpaper from the menu had become the standard wallpaper.

I installed this and I'm having two little problems:
1) it looks like it's 256 colours or something... The previous version looked (except for the photo) like the screenshot for this. But now it looks quite ugly. (W2K, SP 4, 32 bits, 1280x1024).
2) it doesn't seem to be paying attention to my PortableAppsMenu.ini file. I put it in B:\PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\Data\PortableAppsMenu.ini and it read:
Those three lines you added have to go in the DisplayOptions sections. That's the way INIs work.
As for the 256 color, I'm guessing you mean the logo up top. It's using a pixel transparent version of the logo as it allows alternate themes to be loaded (something the original 1.0/1.0.1 version didn't support). Windows 2000 doesn't support the alpha blending that it uses for the logo (since Windows 2000 doesn't support alpha icons), so we have to fall back to the method used for other OSes and lower color displays.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Putting those lines into the DisplayOptions section made them work. Thanks!!!
And yes, I mean the title and logo AND the icon in the system tray. Is there no way to make them look nice in W2K?
Also a feature suggestion:
a "cursor" (perhaps reversed colours, or a focus box) on the items in the menú, that you can move with the arrow keys and "double click" (start that app) with Enter or Space. So one could do Win + P, Arrows, Enter to fire up any program.
And to spice that up even more: incremental search: you type a C, the cursor moves to Clam-win, type an O, and the cursor moves to COlor-cop, add an N and the cursor goes to CONvey. Wait a second and the search is reinitialized so now V goes to Vlc. Alternatively: C goes to next app starting with C, so first C goes to Clam, another C to ColorCop, and one more to Convey, and yet one more wraps around back to Clam.
"a "cursor" (perhaps reversed colours, or a focus box) on the items in the menú, that you can move with the arrow keys and "double click" (start that app) with Enter or Space. So one could do Win + P, Arrows, Enter to fire up any program."
Hey! I was going to write that! OK, at least I can second it. I prefer the keyboard for the mouse any time, and I love the Win+P, Alt+D. I don't even have to press [Alt]!
(I suppose you will fix the minor problem that the Alt+D-(and so on)-combinations do not work when I choose the Norwegian menu.)
Thanks! I got it now. I found the file and found out how to edit it. (And when I don't agree with the «official» translation, I can make my own version.) Excellent!
I was wondering if JPEG support could be added to the Wallpaper Swapper, since most wallpapers available online are in JPEG format. They're definitely smaller than the traditional BMP files as well (which makes the more portable-friendly).
This is just a stepping stone until the Wallpaper Swapper includes complete selection support (like the Personal Picture).
To read every comment in this thread to make sure it hasn't been mentioned, soo...SmithTech's menu has a nice options window, and at the current rate of features being added to XrXca's menu, I think it would be wise to have an options window for the PortableApps.com Menu as well. And SmithTech had the right idea with theme previews as well, although last I check they were still self-selected, but I'm sure you could come up with something to show small thumbnails of the theme and such, just a suggestion.

Yea I'll like something like that, it will be handy for users, if they can manage everything from one nicely interfaced window, like renaming applications and such. I can't wait.

The only problem with it is that Turbo Delphi 2006 cannot install third party components into the IDE. (Or maybe it is just my license that prevents it.)
That component is actually not technically open source. The source is available, but the license is incompatible with OSI approved licenses. So it's considered freeware with source available.

In that section of the thread, you mentioned that it would not be very difficult to implement the use of a .jpg for the wallpaper. Does this mean that you won't be implemeting it after all?

Re-read what I wrote. All it actually does is save the user from converting it to a BMP. It still *HAS* to use a BMP somewhere, since Windows doesn't support JPG wallpaper. The problem, as was discussed, is that we would be creating a really big file on their portable device without warning the user. It would be 8MB if there were to grab their favorite wallpaper out of, say, Vista's default wallpaper set. That's a lot of space to take up without warning. And it's a very slow creation (that's 8MB of writes we'd have to do), so it couldn't happen on the fly when the menu starts. So, the question is when to do it. Most likely in a later release of the menu when the user gets to choose a JPG or BMP and that file is then placed in the data directory.
Why didn't you just post a reply up there instead of having this discussed in two different places now, especially since it was explained pretty well up there already?
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Sorry, i guess I misunderstood what you had said up there. Thanks for repeating yourself though. For some reason it made sense this time, but last time I just didn't get it.

Well done with Beta 4. Major improvement over the current suite available! Still a bit to do though (preferably before the next release) Some things I'd like to see:
* The border around the buddy icon has to go (not to do with bmp>jpg stuff, simply the outline around the custom picture, probably done in the source code to separate the two). That border can be in the image if need be, and if I want to make it blend, I should be able to! I cannot at the moment.
* It seems that if an instance of any program is already running, I cannot load it without closing down the others first. Very annoying! I should be able to open multiple ones!
Edit: It would seem it only happens when you open up a program from C:\, then try load one from PA. If you load up from PA, then try from C:\, it makes a new instance (even if it is PA instance, not the C:\ I requested). Any chance to allow multiple install version to work together? i.e. Firefox version 1.5 on C:\, and firefox 2.x on PA, and both open and running? I've tried different opening methods but this combination can never be achieved.
* I'm getting a report of 997.2mb free of 1GB on the reading. I'm using a 2gb (even if I can only use 1.49gb because 400mb is allocated as private/secured file space).
* Either the text MB free needs to change to MB used to suit the pattern of the bar (bar growth from left to right indication space used), or the bar pattern needs to change to suit the text (shrinking from right to left to indicate free space). I'd personally prefer the 1st option. More people are used to space used than space free ^_^. Better yet, have both if you can fit it
* With the new right click menu in place, the X button on the pull up needs to keep the same icon but its functionality needs to change to a sort of minimize to tray stuff people would normally expect. Closing should now be done solely with the right click > close button. Thats what I expected, and other might too.
I cant think of anything else. Great product. Look forward to a response.
I'm working on the border with the personal icon. May add in a themeable element. May not. But there has to be a border as we have no idea what the icon will be. And it has to be visible when the user is using an icon and invisible when they don't (Beta 5 will let you choose no icon). A bevel was an easy way to accomplish this.
The apps themselves cannot handle multiple instances in many cases. Firefox, Thunderbird and Sunbird for instance. They look for a running instance and latch onto it. Most apps these days are not meant to be run side by side with another version. That's just the way it is. There's an option to allow multiple instances in the Firefox Portable (et al) launchers, but it is not supported or recommended and using it means FFP isn't fully portable and won't fully clean up after itself. If you want this changed, you need to ask the Mozilla folks.
The drive space reports are based on what Windows tells the app through an API call. I can't reproduce this error, even with a 128MB or a 150GB device. I'm researching it.
The MB free of X is based on Windows Vista's free space indicator. Windows Vista and Windows XP, when looking at a global view (say My Computer), report space free and total size, not space used. Space used isn't even an option in XP (don't know about Vista).
The X means close, as it does on most apps. This will not change. Apps that have an X that minimizes are violating basic user interface guidelines.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
As far as border goes, I mean being able to turn it off with an avatar! (I made one that blends with the theme I have but I cannot blend it because the border prevents it. So allow:
Avatar with border (default)
Avatar without border (custom setting)
No Avatar
Now, multiple instances. I can successfully run 3 different Opera, 4 IE, 2 Firefox, and 4 Netscape all at once. They can be run together! Which is why being unable to load Firefox from PA is puzzling.
As for drive space, Windows reports 1.49gb for me. Is there another method of getting the size? The wrong drive usage seriously affects the ability to read the usage meter, which promoted my changes. Fix this bug, I believe it should all fit together.
Finally, as for X meaning clone, simply change it to a button with an underscore then. I've clicked that button many times by accident. It just doesn't fit I expect the function to be close the window, not the program. Please consider again changing it. Or prompt on click whether they want to close the app so they can choose no if it was a mistake
The border will not be user-selectable in the first release. Same way it's not user selectable in XP or Vista. That's just the way it is. Adding it in means exposing a user interface element to allow it. Something blended with the theme is more a part of the theme than a personal icon anyway. If you want something like that, just edit the theme. It's just as much work as doing the icon that blends. And it would only work with the theme you made it work with anyway (since we can't do transparency on the personal icon).
You can NOT start multiple instances of Firefox, Thunderbird or Sunbird without setting the moz_no_remote environment variable (details here). It will hand it off to the running instance. This is by design to avoid multiple instances messing with the same profile.
The menu gets the drive size through Delphi's drive size function. Nothing else exciting is done. This performs a Windows API call. Not sure why it is different than what Windows reports to explorer. I can't reproduce it on any of the 15 USB flash drives, 2 portable hard drives or 2 internal hard drives I have. It only occurs with certain oddball devices. Not sure what the common factor is.
The X will remain a close button. Most users won't use a right-click in the system tray. I'll think about adding a minimize button. It's redundant (since just clicking off of it minimizes it). I know there are some programs that violate the whole X means close thing just because they run from the system tray (uTorrent and Pidgin for example) while others actually work the way they're supposed to (eMule and Winamp for example). But the PortableApps.com Menu is designed after the Windows Start Menu... which has no minimize button either... and you just click off it to 'minimize' it back to the Start button. It's a menu and should act like one.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Is there something wrong with allowing (not by default but by setting) the changing of the borders viability? It would help theme makers a lot (the ability to create avatars that blend with their themes completely without having to send out complete themes for each one.
I CAN start multiple instances of Firefox. I've had almost 5 open at one time. Its just this issue between PA and C:\ (for all apps, not just Firefox, like Notepad++ for example wont allow me to open PA when C:\ has one loaded already).
Can the bad size reporting issues have to do with my securing 450mb or so of password protected space? Since it doesn't have 2 full gigs, it rounds down? In any case, it is wrong, so there is a bug somewhere (PA, Delphi, its function, or otherwise).
As for the X button, add a minimize (underscore) one along with it then. It will help a lot!
You are correct about the multiple instances. you can have as many instances of Firefox Portable opened as you wish, or as many instances of standard Firefox open as you wish, but can not have even one of each running at the same time.

It won't be in 1.1. As I said, I'd have to expose another UI element to the user... which means we need to get the translators involved... which means it's delaying the release... and that's absolutely not happening. The personal icons are designed to allow the user to add a picture of their own choosing
Multiple windows is NOT multiple instances. It's just a new window. And that's just a setting in Firefox (which you can change). Say it with me... you CAN NOT OPEN multiple *instances* of Firefox, Thunderbird or Sunbird without setting the MOZ_NO_REMOTE environment variable to 1. No matter how many times you claim you can, you still can't. Try this. Start Firefox on your local PC (I'm assuming it's 2.0.0.6). Then download an old copy of Firefox Portable 1.5.0.10 from the FFP homepage. Within that, run Firefox.exe directly (not FirefoxPortable.exe). In the window that comes up, click Help - About. Note that the version number is 2.0.0.6. This is because even though you ran the old version, it noticed another instance running and simply handed off to it. Now please stop insisting something is true that I know for an absolute fact after working on these apps for over 2 years to be false.
Other apps *WILL* step on each other and screw up, so they prevent you from launching multiple instances. Often its registry keys and the like. The apps that can be run fine alongside their local ones do not check for this and will happily do so. The ones that can't prevent you from doing so.
Your drive issue could be related to the multiple partitions. I don't know. I may have a drive like that I can test with. I'll see if I can locate it.
On the X thing, I'm inclined to say no. No one has ever brought it up before. Despite well over a million downloads and bundling with every major computer magazine on the planet... so LOTS of people have used the menu before. So, as much as I hate to say it's just you... I think it's just you.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Ok, but what about 1.2? How far do you think that would be? If 1.1 were to go beta 5 tomorrow, and release the day after, how far in the future so you think it would take to make it? (or even a 1.1.1 version (which doesn't need to worry about translations (only milestones need to be translated fully IMHO (1.1, 1.2, 1.3 etc)), and could focus on little things).
And yes, you are right about the different versions of Firefox However, that doesn't change the fact that PA is supposed to be that, PortableApps. They write (or should write) everything to the USB, effectivly stopping the version on c:\ from having its profile change. So I still do not understand why you prevent the PA firefox and other apps from loading up if an instance of C:\ is running. They arn't connected.
And if you insist on keeping it this way, can you at least get rid of that horrible error message, and do one of two things:
* load another window of c:\'s? Afterall, loading PA's firefox then C:/ copy loads another PA. Why does loading C:\ then requesting PA to load give error instead of same result as the other way around (load another windows of already running instance, not ask you to close other instance).
* if I load Pidgin from c:\ then click pidgin from PA, it pulls up the loaded instance (it neither gives an error about another instance, nor loads up a new program in the task tray). If you can't implement cloning an instance, can you atleast pull up a loaded one?
/me confused
Further more, you state "The apps that can be run fine alongside their local ones do not check for this and will happily do so", yet GIMP and Notepad++ wont load since there is another instance. I wasn't aware GIMP and Notepad++ needed profiles :S If they do, then ignore this paragraph
As for drive size, I'm using a program called SmartLogin 1.0.0.2 (a "Smart Generic Security MFC Application") from a company called Trek Technology (s) Pte.Ltd. I took a 2gig flash drive, and made 1.5gig public, 486mb private (or around that) using that program. Hope that helps.
Finally, the X thing. There is space for it, doesn't need translations, increases functionality, and speeds up the process (especially if I have it set to always show, and the icon goes off the active list (or I set it to never show) It makes things that little bit easier. I don't see what the problem is ^_^ I was hoping if even just one of my features got put it, it would be this one.
Since we're going absolutely nowhere, this will be my last response in this thread.
1.2 will be done when it's done. We won't do any 'stable' releases after 1.1 without full translations. And the user-selectable outline around the personal image may or may not enter into it. None of the themers have requested it thus far.
Like it or not, portable apps work with certain limitations. Firefox touches the registry in certain instances. So does Thunderbird. And Notepad++. And PuTTY. And 7-Zip. So they can't run alongside a local version and play nice. The launcher has to manage these things. Multiple instances would prevent it from doing it... leaving the host PC in an unknown state (is the portable's settings there? or the local? or what?). We cannot change the way some apps work (like Firefox, Thunderbird and Sunbird which are under license and can't be modified and still be called FF, TB and SB). Others, we WON'T change because recompiling is too much work. That's the way it is. Saying it should be some other way won't change the way it is.
Pidgin will simply be posting a note in a later release. It should absolutely NOT pull up an existing instance since that instance is the local one, with its own settings... not the portable one that the user wanted. That's bad.
On the X thing, the answer is no for the reason I already gave. Millions of users. You're the only one that's said they have a problem with it and are getting confused. The math is easy on this one.
Please accept these reasons as they are as I won't be going back and forth any more. Please make a point to learn how all this works and get a feel for the community before insisting that you know how something works or how it should work. You've been here less than a day.

...about the icon attributed to the drive by the autorun file. I think he is saying that on Window$ XP $P1 the autorun file isn't working (cause there's no icon and the drive is called as removable drive), and that on Window$ XP $P2 is working (cause the icon and the name of the drive are the ones specified on the autorun file). How about the PortableApps.com Platform be able to change the color scheme when running? Here's the reason:
Making a theme for PortableApps would be hard to do because there are needed tools that require administrator rights for using 3rd party themes.
But a color scheme can easily be modified by the user (even on Window$ XP), so how about making the PortableApps.com Platform change the color scheme automatically when running and reverse to the previous color scheme on close? That color scheme could be in a .ini file that could be changed by the user. Then the PA.com Platform would read the settings on that .ini file and translate that to a working color scheme.
-------------------------
And how about an update option (I don't know if this is on the menu already)? When installing the menu over a previous one it would show an option to update, making all the settings remain, just uploading the menu. If some settings where incompatible with the new menu this would translate them to work, if there were an wallpaper or an user picture this would name the new ones adding another extension called .original
-------------------------
Ah! And the PA.com Platform is great, but it isn't changing the Wallpaper on Windows 2000 SP4 in Portuguese. I did everything I could. I converted the wallpaper to bmp, named it how you told me to, placed where you told me to, but it doesn't work. If I go to the wallpaper dialog, it says that it is your wallpaper running, but it isn't there.

Color schemes are still widely used on pre XP/2k3 $erver cause there's no option for themes (unless hacking the system).
Found out what's the problem. For the wallpaper to work is necessary to have active desktop deactivated. If the active desktop is activated then the system will say that the wallpaper is running, but it won't work. Windows is strange, isn't it?
Active Desktop replaces your regular desktop with a webpage, essentially overlaying your normal wallpaper. So the wallpaper was changed, you just can't see it.
Color schemes are still used pre-XP... but pre-XP machines only make up 6-12% of the PCs in the world. So, it's not of much use to build in a feature that won't be used much.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
But even that way Window$ is still weird. If the wallpaper is set up differently it should change on the active desktop too (Ok, i know these aren't the M$ forums and I will stop right now).

Would it be possible to start another program on the USB drive? So, when you start Portableapps menu you can start program after that (ex. Roboform2GO).
I notice that multiple "apps" are picked up although thankfully the installers are ignored.
For example,
Advanced Window Care has 3 .exe's including Wizard..
CCleaner has 2.
Eraser has 4.
3 Inno Setup's from 3 different apps.
Is there some way to remove these extraneous .exe .dll and other "apps" that PAM is picking up? Right clicking on the menu item and saying "do not show" would be fine.
For Eraser - Use Eraser Portable from here as Eraser isn't fully portable.
For CCLeaner - Use CCleaner 2.0 Beta as 1.x isn't fully portable and 2.0 only has 1 exe.
For InnoSetup - I can't help you there as I don't use it since it isn't open source like NSIS (the source is available, but it doesn't use a valid Open Source license).

I have the same problem with TrueCrypt: The two different .exe-files show up in he menu with the same name. I need both, so i cannot delete one. Is there a way to show the difference in the menu?
It is really cool how the beta automatically finds executables in the portableapps folder even for apps that are not from PortableApps.com, but, it picks up all exes (as was mentioned before) and some of these are useless. That's not the problem. The problem is, I can't remove these links (and can't work out how to) or rename them. Oh, and how do you disable the personal picture?
On a more positive note:
The docking is perfect and needed. Thanks for including that.
The 16bit colour works.

I'm adding a list of known issues between beta releases that people find so that they don't get reported multiple times and so we can be sure and get them before the official release.
1. BUG: Installer overwrites existing custom autorun.inf
2. ADD: Ability to disable Personal Picture
The current public release also picks up all exe's. I think John's working on a feature to hide executables.

what we need to do is enable all of the buttons that came with the first pre release(i can link if needed). we need to integrate a serch bar into the menu like the start menu in vista. put installers with all of the pre releases because i am tired of having to place everything back with the new menu. we have to stop pre releasing and make different releases, basicly, there was nothing wrong with the first pre release exept having to manualy place everything. (these are more like suggestions and requests, sorry for saying that we NEED to do it but i didnt get much sleep lastnight and i am pretty agitated, also the fact that we are going back to school tomorow.)we also should have theme installers as well as an in menu theme changerthat would look something like this.
-------------------------------]
whatever theme(up/down arrows)]
-------------------------------]
i am still working off of the first pre release and i like it, it is quite easy to get programs to work with it.
Wow, that's the most I've seen from John in one thread...
And at this point, I'd be happy for him to clean up the current beta and release it.
Let's stop dogpiling requests, or it'll never get released.
That whole "X" button thing is ridiculous - it's part of the theme picture, if you don't like it, mod the picture and make it say whatever you want!
As for a theme-picker: I like the "install new app" method, which works fine; how often do you need to change themes that you need a drop-down?
Thanks for the hard work, John, and I look forward to the 1.1 release. Solanus, The East Wind
I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.
and easy to use especially for beginner users.
Why do they need a search bar?
And a menu-based theme switcher?
I don't think the average user feels the need to change the themeing every day...
And I REALLY like prereleases. Everyone does them. Open Source software (=community-supported software) relies on Prereleases to get the bugs out.
Your webpage is pretty cluttered. Why do the same to the PortableApps.com Platform?
Oh and BTW John: In my opinion, we should get the menu released soon and stop adding stuff to it. Cause I begin to feel really sorry for the people who are not usingbetas and still using the old one...

did you know that the average computer user changes there backround on ther desktop about every week? also, i am suggesting the menu based theme switcher because if i do want to change the theme, i dont want ot have to replace all of the theme files.
and the search bar, well i just think it would be handy.
The average computer user doesn't even know how to change their background. And those who do rarely change it.
Most users simply don't care about themes and skins. It's only a small minority who do. But it's important to support it for those who do. And I'm speaking as someone who uses a non-default Windows style.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Some people may like D&D, but I personally find it annoying. When I play a game in full screen the menu gets moved. Could there be an option to dock it to a corner of the screen?

solanus has it right. the only thing is that i would like ot have the availability to change between 2 or 3 themes on the fly. and it wouldent be a drop down, it would be an up and down arow that you would use to scroll through the names and it would change as you wee changing or if you hit a "select" button.
i would also like a "theme search" button that would be a link to 1 webpage with EVERY and ALL themes on portableapps.com.
and even thogh i am still adding to the problem, we should stop requesting and release atleast one of the betas.(i am still fine with the original beta but from what i here the newest is pretty shnazzy>(cool))
from a non-programmer, what if you just renamed the file that the insaller overwites 'autorun.inf' with. But than you'd have to change it's name in all of the code, but I think it might work.
How about if the PortableApps.com Platform was able to support extensions? When I say extensions don't think on Firefox, because the idea is a folder with the installed extensions that would have many apps, those apps could appear in a Add-ons sub-menu on the tools menu, running those apps would bring an Windows with the Add-on. Just that, nothing more. That way, features that are in beta test could be experienced without the need to create a new beta (for example: the options window), and features unnecessary for most users could be used by power users.
Something like an options window has to be compiled... as to every single one of the features we're testing. The only way to have extensions with complete access to everything is to write a full platform for it (like Firefox with XUL) which would mean a multi-MB executable and *TONS* of additional code.... instead of the compact 300k we have now.
It ain't possible.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
The add-on is an individual application, made by the users. All the menu should do is to show the add-on entry on the options menu. All add-ons should be individual applications, this way, even Portable Firefox could be considered an Add-on
I am getting it. That's exactly my point. It's not an add on, it's a separate app. A separate app can not update PAM's internal options. Nor can it be used for ANY of the other features. So there's no point. It's a separate app. It goes on the left.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
did not know ccleaner had a new portable version. Thanks. And alot of activity here since my last visit. can't wait for the realese.
just 1 thing, a few days ago i was changing my mouse pointer on my computer and it crossed my mind that if u could have wall paper swapping and carry around ur computer apps on your USB why not have the mouse swap like the wallpaper. That way u will feel at home with PAM on any computer u use.
Just a though pay no attention to it if it will be troublesome
by the way great job John.

you should make the option to put a password protection on the PortableApps Program so others cannot go on it if your lending your USB flash drive to your friends. It would be great to make it optional so there will be not need to write it in every time you start, just the times you want it to start.
It's "respond" not "response"!
response is the noun...:)

I stumbled across this purely by accident, and I didn't see it in the quick scanning of the list, so I thought I would mention it.
I pulled my thumb drive out, and I forgot to close the portableapp menu.
when I tried to close it after the fact, I get the following error message:
"Unable to write to G:\PortableApps\PortableAppsMenu\Data\PortableAppsmenu.ink".
The only way I could get it closed is by re-inserting the drive, and then closing it.
I shut windows down without closing the menu and I had the wallpaper swapper enabled. So after restarting Windows, the wallpaper from the menu had become the standard wallpaper.

but this time i my computer got in a deadlock and i manually shut it down and the wallpaper stayed as the swapped 1 upon start up.

John you do great work
the new menu works great and i love the abilityand to put my own picture in it and swap in my wallpaper.

Just to say that works fine on Wine (whitout counting with Wine bugs) and on Windows 2000.

Blue is everything.
Hi, everyone!
John: Great job, as usual!
StartMinimized=True
FadeMenu=False
StartPosition=LowerLeft
Now it reads:
StartMinimized=True
FadeMenu=False
StartPosition=LowerLeft
[DisplayOptions]
LargeFonts=False
Language=English (US)
So it seems like PAM found it and added those lines, but it is still fading in and appearing on the right.
Not sure if I'm doing something wrong with the ini. (Missed the section title, perhaps...?)
Aren't those settings you set up for being under [DisplayOptions] and not over them?
Try this:
[DisplayOptions]
LargeFonts=False
Language=English (US)
StartMinimized=True
FadeMenu=False
StartPosition=LowerLeft
Hope to have helped

Blue is everything.

There is PNG support for Delphi. It is a custom component downloadable from:
http://pngdelphi.sourceforge.net/
The only problem with it is that Turbo Delphi 2006 cannot install third party components into the IDE. (Or maybe it is just my license that prevents it.)
That component is actually not technically open source. The source is available, but the license is incompatible with OSI approved licenses. So it's considered freeware with source available.

As I have seen in a previous post, I want to contribute with the Spanish Locale File with Shortcuts.
If someone can make any suggestion it'll be great.
I was just going to do the same... but you have a mix...
ICON_VIDEO=&Vídeos is in Spain not in Latin America (In Latin America is Videos, without the stress over the i)
MENU_SEARCH_COMPUTER=Buscar en esta &computadora is in Latin America not in Spain (In Spain is ordenador)...
So one line is in Latin American Spanish and the other one is in Spain Spanish... the rest of the file is fine in both versions of the language...

hi all. can someone send me a nice vista theme for portableapps?????
thanks in advance
MistaBishi
Here you can find a lot of themes.
https://portableapps.com/node/4605
In the sencond page I publish a Vista theme.
We need an official PortableApps wallpaper for that new feature. I love it.
Also, does the image have to be .bmp?
Maybe on the official one, I'll ask my designer.
And yes, it has to be a BMP. This was thoroughly discussed right in this thread:
https://portableapps.com/node/8450#comment-44623
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Hell was full, so I came back!!!
Sorry for my lousy English!!!

I was hoping for catagory support (yes I have that mod) but anyway,
window service pack 1 (my secondary computer) calls the drive "removable disk" and has a different Icon then when I'm in service pack 2.

The categorization used by the MOD is incompatible with what is being worked on for the official release (and it naughtily makes changes within the app directories). But it's coming in 1.2.
What icon do you mean?
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
...about the icon attributed to the drive by the autorun file. I think he is saying that on Window$ XP $P1 the autorun file isn't working (cause there's no icon and the drive is called as removable drive), and that on Window$ XP $P2 is working (cause the icon and the name of the drive are the ones specified on the autorun file). Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm running 1.1 beta 4 with no problems (using the mod). Are your talking about a newer menu? Can I see? Can everyone see? Can we have it?
Please?

The problem is that color schemes barely show up on XP due to the visual styles. So, it's kinda pointless.
There will be an update eventually.
Dunno why the wallpaper isn't working. It works fine on Win2K (I just retested it). It doesn't yet work on Windows 9x, though.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Thanks,

John,
Really nice release.
Thanks for your help.
This functionality is coming in the next release.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Thanks for the suggestions. Happy to use Eraser Portable; did not know it was available. Same for CCleaner.
I don't know which apps use Inno Setup. I'll take a look.
Look forward to the next release.
Thanks again.

I have the same problem with TrueCrypt: The two different .exe-files show up in he menu with the same name. I need both, so i cannot delete one. Is there a way to show the difference in the menu?
Vennlig hilsen
Sigurd Hasle
The menu works great, but one problem with the display pic. If you have "magic pink" in your pic, it turns that part of the menu transparent.

Known Issues / To Do List
I'm adding a list of known issues between beta releases that people find so that they don't get reported multiple times and so we can be sure and get them before the official release.
1. BUG: Installer overwrites existing custom autorun.inf
2. ADD: Ability to disable Personal Picture
The current public release also picks up all exe's. I think John's working on a feature to hide executables.

Updated by moderator JTH. I swicthed your PREs back to EMs for a second time. PREs are for code that doesn't exceed a certain width, NOT for quotes which mess up the page
what we need to do is enable all of the buttons that came with the first pre release(i can link if needed). we need to integrate a serch bar into the menu like the start menu in vista. put installers with all of the pre releases because i am tired of having to place everything back with the new menu. we have to stop pre releasing and make different releases, basicly, there was nothing wrong with the first pre release exept having to manualy place everything.

It would be great to make it optional so there will be not need to write it in every time you start, just the times you want it to start.
maybe we could set up something where we get to choose what apps come with PAM as or before we download? Maybe?
