I am reposting this to give a better view of what I need. I have constructed a web page for viewing MSDS pdf files to be burned on a CD. I chose FFP to make it easy to use on many computers that have different windows and IE versions. Now I need to start FFP and have it start my file MSDSCD/CBI/index.html. I have tried to save that in my home page, but it either tries to access the internet or does nothing at all. When I assign a drive to the file e:/MSDSCD/CBI/index.html it works. As you can figure out putting a drive letter in won't work either since not all of the computers will be configured the same. I would like to know how to accomplish this in DETAIL please.

Hi,
I'm adding to this topic since it pretty much adresses a problem I have. I am attempting a similar project (for different reasons) and managed to get Portable Firefox live running on a CD and loading my desired page, but everytime I put in my CD (to activate autorun) I get asked "blah blah write-protected. blah blah store files locally. y/n" is there an easy way to turn it off? (other than recompile a patched version. I'm not keen on that!) This project is to be a handout to colleages and they shouldn't have to confirm the "live"-nature of PFF.

thank you for your reply. Unfortunately either I am thicker than I thought, as I re-read the entire support page twice and didn't find a solution, or I made my problem not clear.
I will try again, since I like the portable-idea and want to use it.
Thus: I went and did everything the page said to make ff "live"
here my .ini:

then I burned it to a DVD+R (various reasons).
Now, when I start PFF from the disc I am prompted:
"Firefox Portable appears to be running from a location that is read-only. Would you like to temporarily copy it to the local hard drive and run it from there?
(Privacy note: [...])
Yes/No"
If I confirm the message, PFF starts normally and loads the page. Everything is fine. But if at all possible I'd like to avoid having to "click" that message everytime the porgram is run.
Please enlighten me where I went wrong.

it can be an orthographic error.
test with:
LocalHomepage=../../portal.html
it has worked to me.

thank you for your idea, but I tested it (twice) and while it didn't keep the page from loading (which always worked, see above), I am still prompted. This prompting is the problem and seems to be tied to the fact that my cd-r is read-only (obviously). I simply want to avoid this prompt, as my project goes out to people who might not understand the prompts significance(sp?) and might choose not to use the disc as a consequence. Which would be a pity...

yes it does. After I confirm the above dialogue pff starts normally and displays the homepage defined in the .ini. Like I said, it works fine except there's that dialogue, which is not really a problem but ugly.

Edit: Using Firefox Portable 2.0.0.6? Hover over the launcher and tell me what File Version says.

FirefoxPortable.exe reports as 1.4.5.0
I downloaded the version on thu 24.08.07 edit: 08/24/07 in american notation.
If it's too much trouble i'll simply have to live with it

If it's not meant to display it maybe additional information from my side helps:
It was used and showed the described results on three different systems, all Win XP. The system the CD/DVD was mastered on is Win XP SP2. All OS were german-language versions. The master-system is a standalone Athlon XP 1600+, the other two were laptops, one HP/Compaq (no idea about precise system, sorry), one Toshiba.
